Job description

Job Description:

You'll help bring custom conveyor, packaging, and material handling systems from concept to reality. Working closely with engineers, project teams, vendors, and customers, you'll develop detailed designs that support fabrication, installation, and successful project execution.

This position combines technical design work with practical problem solving, giving you the opportunity to see how your designs perform in real-world applications.

What You'll Be Part Of

You'll support projects from initial layout through final design, helping create equipment that serves a variety of industrial and manufacturing environments.

  • Create and modify SolidWorks parts, assemblies, and fabrication drawings for conveyors, packaging equipment, and material handling systems

  • Develop and update 2D plant layouts using AutoCAD while coordinating with internal teams and equipment vendors

  • Perform design calculations, review layouts, and help resolve design challenges before fabrication and installation

  • Collaborate with customers and project teams to ensure designs meet project requirements, schedules, and expectations

This position offers the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects while continuing to expand your technical design and industry knowledge.

What We're Looking For in You

  • Associate degree in Engineering, Drafting Technology, or equivalent experience

  • Experience using SolidWorks and AutoCAD in a professional environment

  • Background designing conveyors, packaging equipment, or material handling systems

  • Understanding of fabrication methods, mechanical systems, and design principles

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment

What This Position Is (and Is Not)

This position is:

  • Focused on mechanical design, drafting, and problem solving

  • A collaborative role working with engineers, vendors, customers, and project teams

  • An opportunity to contribute to projects from concept through fabrication

This position is not:

  • A purely administrative drafting role

  • Limited to updating existing drawings without design input

  • An isolated position working independently from project teams

Why This Position Stands Out

This position provides the opportunity to work on tangible equipment and systems that move products, support manufacturing operations, and solve real customer challenges.

You'll gain exposure to a variety of projects and industries while continuing to build your technical design skills in a team-oriented environment.

If This Sounds Like You

If you enjoy turning concepts into detailed designs, solving mechanical challenges, and seeing your work come to life in the field, we'd like to connect.

We're looking for someone who takes pride in producing quality work, enjoys collaborating with others, and wants to continue growing their technical expertise.

Your life at Harris

As one of the country's leading mechanical contractors, Harris offers you the best of both worlds: the stability, resources and opportunities of a national company, and the team culture, creative spirit and customer loyalty of a local business. If you thrive on variety and new challenges, we want to meet you!

From stadiums to manufacturing facilities, power plants to hospitals, concert halls to classrooms, we handle projects of all sizes and complexity from multiple regional locations across the country.
