Job description

Roof Truss Designer Location: Headingley, Manitoba or Remote within Canada
Position Type: Full-Time or Contract
Work Arrangement: Onsite or Remote
The Opportunity
Our client is an established Manitoba manufacturer of roof and floor truss systems serving residential, multifamily, commercial and agricultural construction projects.
They are looking for a Roof Truss Designer to increase design capacity and improve project turnaround times. This is an opportunity to work on a variety of building projects while collaborating closely with estimating, sales, production and customers.
An experienced designer may work onsite in Headingley or remotely from anywhere in Canada. The company will also consider a local junior candidate who is interested in developing a long-term career in component design and can work onsite while receiving training.
What You’ll Do
  • Design wood roof truss systems for residential, multifamily, commercial and agricultural projects
  • Review architectural and structural drawings, specifications and project requirements
  • Prepare accurate truss layouts, shop drawings and supporting documentation
  • Complete design calculations and ensure work complies with applicable codes and engineering requirements
  • Identify missing or conflicting information before projects move into production
  • Coordinate project details and revisions with sales, estimating and customers
  • Work closely with production to ensure designs are accurate, practical and ready for manufacturing
  • Respond to customer questions, design revisions and site-related issues
  • Manage multiple projects while maintaining accuracy and meeting turnaround expectations
  • Maintain organized electronic project files and design records
  • Support improvements to the design, estimating and production workflow
What You Bring
  • Experience designing wood roof trusses
  • Strong ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings
  • Alpine truss design software experience is preferred
  • Experienced MiTek designers will also be considered
  • Knowledge of wood-frame construction, building codes and engineering principles
  • Strong attention to detail and technical problem-solving ability
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and changing priorities
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work across departments
  • Floor truss or engineered wood product experience would be an asset
  • Experience designing roof, floor and wall systems would be a strong advantage
Remote and Contract Options Experienced designers may be considered for:
  • Full-time remote employment within Canada
  • Hourly contract work
  • Fee-per-design arrangements
  • Flexible contract structures based on project volume and complexity
Remote candidates must have enough experience to work independently, communicate effectively and consistently meet agreed-upon turnaround times.
Junior candidates must be located within commuting distance of Headingley and able to work onsite.
What’s Offered
  • Full-time employment or flexible contract options
  • Remote work for experienced designers
  • Competitive compensation based on experience and working arrangement
  • Training and development for a local junior candidate
  • A stable Canadian manufacturing environment
  • A varied project portfolio across multiple construction sectors
  • Direct collaboration with estimating, sales and production
  • The opportunity to play an important role in expanding the company’s design capacity
If you are an experienced roof truss designer—or a technically minded local candidate interested in learning component design—we would like to hear from you.
