JOB SUMMARY

The Refuse Equipment Operator/CDL is responsible for safely operating solid waste vehicles and heavy equipment to collect and transport waste and recyclables. This position requires a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and involves driving and maintaining units, conducting pre-trip and post-trip inspections, and ensuring compliance with all safety and environmental regulations. The operator will also assist with disposal operations at landfills or recycling centers and work closely with the team to ensure smooth operations while maintaining a strong focus on safety, customer service, and efficiency while performing daily duties.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Drive a designated route to collect refuse and ensure all containers are emptied as scheduled.
  • Operate sanitation vehicles and equipment safely, adhering to traffic laws and company safety protocols.
  • Maintain cleanliness of trucks and monitor their condition, reporting any issues for preventative maintenance.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure safety and proper functioning.
  • Assist in loading and unloading waste materials, including manual handling when necessary.
  • Support disposal operations at landfills and recycling centers, following safety and environmental regulations.
  • Communicate with dispatch regarding route progress, delays, or issues.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of vehicles to ensure optimal performance.
  • Completes special tasks and assignments as delegated by the department head or designee.
