Design Studio Assistant information

What is a design studio assistant?

Design Studio Assistants support designers and creative teams by handling administrative tasks, organizing materials, and maintaining the studio environment. They may help prepare design samples, manage inventory, coordinate schedules, and assist with client presentations. Their role is essential in ensuring the smooth operation of a design studio, allowing designers to focus on the creative aspects of their projects. Design Studio Assistants often gain valuable industry experience and may work in fields such as graphic design, fashion, interior design, or architecture.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a design studio assistant?

To thrive as a Design Studio Assistant, you need a solid understanding of design principles, organization, and basic project management, often supported by a relevant degree or coursework in design or the arts. Familiarity with design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, file management systems, and office productivity tools is typically required. Strong communication, attention to detail, and adaptability are essential soft skills for supporting creative teams and managing multiple tasks. These skills and qualities are crucial for facilitating smooth studio operations, ensuring project deadlines are met, and supporting the creative vision of the team.

What are some common challenges faced by a design studio assistant, and how can they be managed effectively?

Design Studio Assistants often juggle multiple responsibilities such as organizing materials, supporting designers, and coordinating project timelines. One common challenge is managing competing priorities during periods of high workload or tight deadlines. Effective time management, clear communication with team members, and proactive organization—such as keeping inventories updated and files easily accessible—can help address these issues. Building strong relationships within the team also ensures smoother collaboration and support when challenges arise.

Job description

Company Description

Arbor Row is a boutique home furnishings showroom in the heart of North Scottsdale, thoughtfully created by the team behind Laura Kehoe Design, an award-winning luxury interior design firm. Serving as the retail extension of the design studio, Arbor Row offers a carefully curated collection of custom upholstery, distinctive lighting, artisan accessories, artwork, rugs, and unique gifts.

Our showroom is known for its timeless, design-forward aesthetic and personalized approach, helping clients create homes that are both beautiful and deeply personal. Every piece is intentionally selected to inspire, and every client interaction reflects our commitment to exceptional service, thoughtful design, and genuine hospitality. We foster a collaborative, creative environment where team members are passionate about design, customer relationships, and attention to every detail.

Design & Sales Associate (Part-Time)

Role Description

Arbor Row Home is seeking a personable, design-minded Design & Sales Associate to join our growing team in Scottsdale. This is a part-time, on-site position for someone who loves interiors, enjoys building relationships, and thrives in a beautiful, fast-paced retail environment.

As one of the first points of contact in our showroom, you will warmly welcome clients, provide exceptional customer service, and assist them in selecting furniture, lighting, accessories, artwork, and gifts that reflect their lifestyle and aesthetic. You'll become knowledgeable about our curated product assortment while offering design guidance, assisting with basic space planning, processing sales, and helping maintain the elevated presentation of the showroom.

This role also includes coordinating customer orders, following up on special requests, collaborating closely with our design and operations teams, and ensuring every client enjoys a seamless and memorable shopping experience.

Qualifications

  • Passion for interior design, home furnishings, and creating beautiful spaces.
  • Exceptional customer service and retail sales skills with the ability to build lasting relationships and confidently guide clients through purchasing decisions.
  • A strong eye for color, scale, texture, and composition, with the ability to thoughtfully coordinate furnishings and accessories.
  • Excellent communication skills and a warm, professional presence.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively within a small, high-performing team.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and assist with light merchandising, stocking, and showroom styling.
  • Previous experience in furniture, interior design, luxury retail, or home décor is preferred, but we welcome candidates with a genuine passion for design and a desire to learn.
  • Availability for part-time shifts, including Saturdays and other peak shopping hours.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who naturally enjoys connecting with people, has an appreciation for beautiful interiors, and takes pride in delivering an exceptional client experience. The ideal candidate is proactive, polished, dependable, and excited to grow with a locally owned luxury design brand.
