Job description

Job Title: Project Manager/Engineer/CoordinatorJob Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced professional to lead complex utility projects from initiation through closeout. This role involves managing a variety of low voltage distribution projects, both overhead and underground, supporting the internal Consumers Energy Distribution Design team. The hired candidate will be responsible for coordinating with various departments to ensure project success, including vegetation management, environmental studies, easement access, materials procurement, and financial approvals.

Responsibilities
  • Lead all phases of project management: planning, execution, monitoring, and closeout.
  • Coordinate internal and external resources to ensure project execution.
  • Track and manage project budgets, schedules, and risks.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients and project stakeholders.
  • Prepare status reports, forecasts, and presentations for clients and leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, safety protocols, and industry standards.
  • Mentor and support project team members including coordinators and field staff.
  • Monitor projects from conception to completion, ensuring all steps are completed in a timely manner.
  • Work with various departments to balance workplan completion, resources, and new business workload.
  • Serve as the single point of contact for project-related issues and coordinate redesigns as needed.
  • Collaborate with Resource Planners on forecasting crew movement for successful project completion.
  • Provide weekly updates to Program Managers and Directors on project statuses.
  • Participate in problem-solving and lean management efforts to improve processes and gain efficiencies.
Essential Skills
  • 2+ years of project management and utility experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Excel, Power BI, and SharePoint or SAP.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or General Business is a plus.
  • PMP certification or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience related to utility work including LVD, substation, transmission, natural gas, underground utility, or commercial/industrial construction projects.
Work Environment

The candidate will be required to go into the Flint Consumers Energy Service Center three days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday). Wednesday and Friday offer the flexibility to work remotely. The candidate will work with cross-functional teams, clients, and regulatory stakeholders in a modern, state-of-the-art office space. The role demands occasional travel to the local Consumers Energy office, with most team interactions happening remotely, as team members are spread across the state.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Flint, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.46 - $48.08/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
