What your Job will Be like:

The Secure Embedded Systems department (5327) focuses on the development of secure and resilient computing solutions critical for national


Organization 5327 is seeking a motivated Product Design Engineer to support state-of-the-art printed circuit board (PCB) layout for large multi-disciplinary programs critical to national security. The successful candidate will support a team in the design, development, test, and deployment of novel embedded computing solutions. The successful candidate will have a background in, and understanding of, printed circuit board layout, test, and debug.


You will work alongside world-class experts and use your skills in the following areas:

  • Layout of custom, state-of-the-art PCBs.
  • PCB test and debug.
  • Team with PCB designers, firmware, and software engineers to create embedded computing solutions.


Qualifications we Require:

  • High School Diploma.
  • Experience and understanding with printed circuit board layout.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Successful drug screening.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance.


Qualifications We Desire:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of experience.
  • Certified Interconnect Designer (CID) Certification.
  • Certified Interconnect Designer Advanced (CID+) Certification.
  • Certified Printed Circuit Designer (CPCD) certification.
  • Experience with Siemens layout tools (PADS and/or Expedition).
  • Experience with high-layer-count stack-ups (18+ copper layers).
  • Experience with PCB layout, testing, and debugging for applications involving state-of-the-art FPGAs, highspeed, and large memory.
  • Experience routing signals with high-speed data-rates (5+ gb/s).
  • Experience routing modern memory topologies (DDR4/5).
  • Experience with fine design features (3 mil trace & space).
  • Active DOE Q clearance.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate well in a multidisciplinary team of designers and test engineers.


Location/Work Arrangement:

  • Sandia National Laboratory in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
  • Schedule is full-time, Monday – Friday 40-hour week.
  • Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant will be required to work onsite.
