Reporting to the Vice President of Manufacturing, the Manager of Engineering oversees Project Design, Engineering, and Product Support operations, with direct oversight of four senior reports and overall accountability for a team of 28 engineering professionals. The role is responsible for leading the Engineering department to achieve corporate goals, with accountability for the safety of design, accuracy and timeliness of deliverables, manufacturing profit margin, and overall product quality. This role requires both strategic leadership capability and direct hands-on technical expertise in gas compression and power generation systems, including onsite commissioning and field troubleshooting. The role also carries responsibility for evaluating and integrating new product lines adjacent to the company's core compression and power generation business.
What You Will Do
Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:
  • Direct and oversee four senior reports comprising a Design Manager, Engineering Supervisor, Product Support Manager, and Chief Engineer, with overall accountability for a team of 28 engineering professionals, ensuring alignment with corporate goals, mission, vision, and values
  • Lead, develop, and mentor senior engineering staff, including Project Engineers, Controls Engineers, Vessel Engineers, and Project Designers through ongoing coaching and supervision, performance evaluations, goal setting, and regular feedback
  • Develop and implement business processes, systems, workflows, and standards, including engineering tools, design standards, and design software
  • Champion a Continuous Improvement culture by identifying and leading process, system, and workflow changes that positively influence business efficiency and profitability
  • Collaborate with U.S. and Canadian managers and leaders to maximize synergies, achieve company KPIs, and optimize revenue and profit per engineering hour and on-time delivery
  • Oversee staffing requirements including department resourcing, hiring, onboarding, training, performance management, and compliance with industry regulations
  • Oversee and manage technical accuracy, cost control, and project schedule on-time delivery
  • Coordinate with Project Management to ensure proper timing of projects to the fabrication floor and identify opportunities during design and fabrication to drive toward corporate goals
  • Manage product support for shipped units, including warranty and aftermarket resolution, ensuring timely field issue resolution
  • Provide onsite commissioning support, field troubleshooting, and warranty issue resolution for company compression and power generation systems, requiring direct technical engagement with clients and equipment at customer facilities
  • Foster a culture of strong client relationships; support team members in establishing effective client communications
  • Apply practical knowledge of reciprocating, rotary screw, and sliding vane compressor systems in training and technical leadership
  • Design and engineer compressor packages for operation in sub-zero and extreme cold weather conditions, including winterization, low-temperature material selection, heat tracing, and cold-start system design
  • Oversee engineering design and product support for industrial natural gas generator sets, ensuring technical accuracy and alignment with client specifications and applicable standards
  • Lead the integration of new and adjacent product lines, including adapting existing designs to local specifications, updating engineering drawings and documentation, establishing manufacturing shop floor workflows, and sourcing required tooling and equipment
  • Assist with long-term planning related to facilities and manpower
  • Participate in and advise employees on Health and Safety programs and potential job-related hazards

Education, Skills and Experience
Your education and experience include:
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) or Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) required
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification required
  • Minimum 15 years of direct engineering experience in the design and packaging of gas compression systems
  • Minimum 10 years of management experience in compressor packaging in a supervisory, leadership, and administrative planning role within a compression manufacturing environment
  • Experience designing compressor packages for sub-zero and extreme cold weather operations, including winterization, low-temperature material specifications, and cold-start system design
  • Experience integrating new product lines into an engineering and manufacturing environment, including design adaptation, documentation updates, shop floor workflow development, and tooling procurement
  • Experience troubleshooting compressor units in the field and providing client support
  • Experience in the engineering, design, and packaging of industrial natural gas generator sets for power generation applications
  • Experience with CO2, sour gas, and acid gas systems in compliance with NACE MR0175
  • Strong working knowledge of ANSI B31.3 and ASME B31.8
  • Strong working knowledge of API 520/521
  • Experience reviewing sequence of operations for control panels
  • Experience reviewing acoustic, torsional, and structural analysis results
  • Ability to analyze organizational strengths, weaknesses, market conditions, and competitive landscape to develop and adapt strategic plans
  • Demonstrated people skills and employee relations experience, including coaching, mentoring, and conflict resolution
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to delegate work effectively
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency in current engineering software and Microsoft Office applications
  • Commitment to observing safety and security procedures and maintaining all regulatory documentation as required by the company and applicable Government Regulatory Agencies
