Description
Waggoner is looking for a Hydrology and Hydraulics Design Engineer to join our growing team and support a diverse portfolio of drainage and water resources projects. This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of technical design tasks, contribute to meaningful infrastructure improvements, and work alongside experienced engineers across multiple disciplines. It is well suited for a mid-level professional looking to deepen their expertise in H&H modeling and design while continuing to develop professionally.
Your Primary Responsibilities will include
Services provided in this discipline include planning, design, and construction support of:
  • Roadway Drainage Systems Design (MS DOT experience preferred)
  • Stormwater Management
  • Detention and Retention Pond and Outfall Design and Analysis
  • Bridge Hydraulics and Scour Analysis
  • Erosion Control Design and Analysis
  • Watershed Hydrology and Drainage Studies
  • Open Channel Hydraulics Design and Analysis
  • Channel Stabilization
  • Hydraulic Modeling (HEC-RAS 1D/2D, MS DOT, HydroWIN, FHWA HY-8 and Hydraulic Toolbox)
  • Design of Hydraulic Structures
  • Floodplain Mapping and FEMA Modeling support

Responsibilities / Essential Functions
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses and design calculations for a variety of infrastructure and land development projects
  • Develop and review drainage reports, design plans, and supporting documentation
  • Utilize modeling software such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HY-8, and related tools to evaluate drainage systems and flood impacts
  • Support project managers in developing scope, schedule, and budgets for H&H-related tasks
  • Coordinate with internal teams across transportation, site development, and environmental disciplines
  • Assist with preparation of permit applications and coordination with regulatory agencies, including FEMA and DOT
  • Participate in field reviews and provide construction phase support as needed
  • Ensure quality and accuracy of work through QA/QC processes
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients through project delivery and communication
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers, providing guidance on technical work and best practices
  • Stay current on industry standards, regulations, and emerging tools related to hydrology and hydraulics

What you'll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field required
  • 4 to 8 years of relevant hydrology and hydraulics experience
  • Experience with H&H modeling software (HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HY-8, etc.)
  • Familiarity with FEMA regulations, floodplain management, and DOT standards is preferred
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mississippi, or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment
