LATITUDE is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Chicago, Illinois, USA. LATITUDE maintains a community digital lab with high-end scanning and printing equipment, operates an Artist in Residence program, and organizes regular education & arts programming.
The staff is currently a group of 3 full-time staff, 3 Fellows, and 15 Volunteer Lab Assistants. We encourage all applicants to have a personal interest in the artistic community of Chicago and in working for a growing non-profit organization.
Job Description
LATITUDE Chicago is excited to be expanding their staff to include a part-time (2.5 days/week) Communications Coordinator!
The Communications Coordinator develops and maintains the public presence of LATITUDE across all platforms. The position involves basic print and web design (Squarespace), event photography, social media(FB&Instagram), and email campaigns (Mailchimp). This individual will work closely with the Programming & Education Fellows to craft language and coordinate programming and residency announcements. The Communications Coordinator is encouraged to develop their creativity and technical skill to produce content for LATITUDE.
Position begins: March 2018
  • Maintain an active presence on social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram
  • Use these platforms to drive awareness of the organization and to raise its profile.
  • Record and make use of data from these platforms to determine strategic action.
  • Audience growth
  • Maintain the organization's website with regular updates.
  • Develop an organized photographic documentation archive.
  • Photograph at events and workshops.
  • Schedule, compose, and send out mass emails to the organization's email list.
  • Work closely with Programming & Education Fellows.
  • Craft language and sequence communications to best support programmings needs.
  • Seek out and plan for live events, including a presence at symposiums, conferences, expos, etc.
  • Design graphics, posters, signage, etc., for print and web.
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies and campaigns to develop LATITUDE's audience, and drive revenue through DIY lab use, Service Bureau sales, educational programming enrollment, and donations.
  • Determine ways to creatively develop the organization's online voice.
  • Pursue local media for coverage of our events.
  • WBEZ, Chicago Reader, The Visualist, Chicago Mag, etc.
  • Work with full staff to plan and promote annual fundraiser and other events.

Additional Long-Term Projects for Communications Coordinator
  • Create and manage a comprehensive image archive
  • Develop/update LATITUDE style guide.
  • Begin regularly photographing events at the lab
  • Develop more comprehensive and documented communications strategies and style guide
  • Work with ED and potential 3rd party consultant on website structure and management as the organization and offerings expand
