Job description

UL Solutions is seeking an Electrical Engineer with experience in Revit and building systems to join the Design & Construction team within the Facilities Department.

This role is ideal for an engineer with a background in A/E design consulting and experience in electrical design and project leadership for commercial, industrial, or laboratory facilities. Project management skills can be further developed through on-the-job coaching.

As part of a growing internal design team, this role will support conceptual and schematic design development and lead coordination with third-party vendors for new construction, renovation, and facility planning projects. The Electrical Engineer will collaborate with internal teams and external partners to deliver lab and technical facilities from concept through construction while maintaining the integrity of UL's global facilities. This role will also support Facility Teams in maintaining and optimizing building systems across active sites.

This is a full-time hybrid (3 days a week in-office) role, and can be located at any UL Solutions office in the United States. 

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 6+ years of experience in building systems design within an A/E, consulting, or construction environment
  • Experience supporting electrical construction documentation for commercial, industrial, or laboratory facilities
  • Experience collaborating across disciplines in multi-phase building projects
  • Strong proficiency in Revit (required) and experience in BIM-based design environments
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and MS Project
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements (UL, FCC, FDA) related to lab environments
  • Familiarity with automation and control systems

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing laboratories, technical facilities, or complex industrial environments
  • Experience with global project coordination and collaboration with external design firms
  • Understanding of energy-efficient building systems and sustainable design practices

    Total Rewards: We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. The estimated salary range for this position is $104,000 to $130,000 and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 10% of the base salary. This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country. We also provide full-time employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday including floating holidays (12 days) and sick time off (72 hours).

This is a full-time hybrid (3 days a week in-office) role, and can be located at any UL Solutions office in the United States. 

Building Systems Design & Coordination (Revit/BIM-Centric)

  • Independently provide building electrical design
  • Collaborate with the Design and Construction team and stakeholders to develop electrical schematic designs supporting project feasibility
  • Focus on power distribution, lighting, and low-voltage systems (fire alarm, security, data, and AV)
  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety codes and regulations
  • Support conceptual planning, budgeting, and value engineering from concept through execution
  • Review, coordinate, and manage external engineering firms globally from concept through construction documentation and delivery
  • Coordinate with the Construction Project Manager to support project execution and maintain design intent and requirements
  • Support Facility Teams in maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing building electrical systems at existing facilities

Equipment Integration & Implementation

  • Support coordination and integration of electrical equipment, including lab instruments, control systems, and sensors
  • Participate in installation reviews, testing, and commissioning activities as needed
  • Assist in resolving electrical coordination issues during project delivery

Energy Efficiency & Sustainability

  • Support energy optimization strategies through efficient lighting, HVAC controls, and building automation systems (BAS)
  • Contribute to the implementation of sustainable design practices and energy-efficient solutions
  • Promote sustainable practices within laboratory and facility environments

Safety & Compliance

  • Support coordination of emergency systems, fire alarms, and safety circuits
  • Ensure adherence to applicable codes and standards, including OSHA, NFPA, and NEC

Documentation & Standards

  • Review technical documentation, including electrical drawings and specifications prepared by external design firms
  • Support documentation and maintenance of ULS design standards and processes
