Purpose:

As a Manager, SoftwareDevelopment atPayByPhone, your primary focus is leading and supporting your team ofcreatorsto deliver a world-class experience based on ourPayByPhoneplatform. Youwon'tbe primarily hands-on and writing code - instead,you'llbring your technical background and desire to understand the technical aspects of the product to help remove any blockers and continue to grow and scale your team.You'llbe an excellent recruiter, a highly skilled communicator, a great issue resolver, and an organizer of your people.


Responsibilities:

  • Plan, release, and schedule development, working closely with Product Management todeterminescope and ensure that features meet requirements
  • Provide estimates and initial assessment for proposed development tasks
  • Track and report progress of the project against key milestones and keep feature stakeholders updatedensuring on-time and high-quality delivery of the project
  • Coordinate cross functionally across various teams/organizations both internal and external driving product development efforts
  • Manage (delegate whereappropriate)the team's backlog,triaging new tickets including defects,ensuring the quality of requirements and acceptance criteria meets company guidelines
  • Serve as the team's Scrum Master (delegate whereappropriate), breaking down roadblocks as well as managing communications with stakeholders and dependent teams
  • Be accountable foroutcomeof all technical design and architecture discussions within the team. Balance team/service needs with the development of the platform as a whole and time-critical business needs
  • Be accountable for ensuring the team's software and technology adheres to development and operationaland budgetguidelines
  • Own,operate, andmaintainyour team's services and institute/maintaina rotating on-call incident escalation and response process
  • Create a culture of continuous improvement
  • Source, interview, and closetechnologycandidates.
  • Update and improve the software development onboarding process and documentation.
  • Create a continuous performance culture toestablishgrowth and development of team members by holding regular 1-on-1s, conducting performance & development reviews, settingobjectives, and providing valuable feedback to team members

  • Keepup-to-datewith the latest trends and technologies in the spacein order toensure that best practices for quality software development and testing methodologies are followed

Required Qualifications

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Demonstrated experience / projects

  • Involved in theinception, design, development, and operation of aSaaSservice or significant subcomponent
  • Can quickly become productive in an unfamiliar platform, givenappropriate historicalguidance

Technical / Hard Skills

  • Experience as a software development manager or a software team leader in an Agile development environment.
  • Experience working in a global SaaS organization including understanding of the architectural concepts
  • Experience working witha team onlegacy code and improving it in-place or with a greenfield replacement
  • Past experienceas a developer
  • Able to capture requirements and write high quality acceptance criteria
  • A deep understanding ofaproduction environment forateam's applications,technologyand their collaborators
  • Service-level design and documentation

People Management experience (if applicable)

  • Experience leading a team ofcreatorswho focus on building core technology features
  • Working with cross-functional teams to deliver complexfeatures
  • Excellent people management skillsincluding experience of appraisals, objectivesettingand the ability to work with Talent Acquisition to hire and grow a talented team of engineers

Years of Experience

  • 7+ or more years of industry experience

Education (post-secondary, certification, etc.)

  • Relevant industry experience and/or a degree in Computer Science/Equivalent
