Job description

Job Title: Senior Piping Designer – Chemicals
Location: Charleston, WV

Overview

Purpose:

You will provide piping design and drafting services to Worley and its customers, including technical leadership and coordination within the piping design team. In this role, you will lead and support the delivery of piping design solutions for complex nuclear and industrial projects while ensuring compliance with customer requirements, nuclear quality assurance standards, applicable codes, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver piping design and drafting services that meet Worley, its customers, and applicable statutory, regulatory, and nuclear quality requirements, on time and within budget.
  • Manage assigned piping design scope, including schedules, deliverables, and project priorities.
  • Support project planning activities, including schedule development, milestone definition, and resource planning.
  • Develop staffing plans aligned with project scope, schedule, and budget requirements.
  • Apply client procedures, project specifications, and nuclear quality assurance requirements, including NQA-1 standards.
  • Ensure piping designs comply with applicable nuclear codes, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Define and manage piping design areas within assigned units or facility areas.
  • Maintain project tracking tools, including Needs Lists and other design management documentation.
  • Monitor P&ID Management of Change (MOC) logs and identify design scope changes.
  • Utilize PDMS, E3D, Navisworks, and other 3D modeling tools to develop, review, and track piping designs.
  • Review piping deliverables prior to Issued for Construction (IFC) to ensure accuracy, compliance, completeness, and traceability.
  • Coordinate piping design activities with engineering, quality assurance, quality control, construction, and other project disciplines.
  • Implement and maintain design verification processes in accordance with nuclear quality assurance requirements.
  • Participate in formal design reviews, model reviews, and interdisciplinary coordination meetings.
  • Conduct field walkdowns to verify P&IDs, collect field measurements, identify tie-in locations, and evaluate routing constraints.
  • Integrate field data and laser scan information into 3D models to support design development and brownfield modifications.
  • Lead piping design efforts on brownfield nuclear projects while addressing existing facility constraints and constructability considerations.
  • Proactively identify design issues, develop practical solutions, and communicate effectively with project stakeholders.
  • Assist and mentor junior designers by providing technical guidance and support.
  • Complete additional responsibilities associated with this position as required.

Qualifications

What You Will Bring

Technical and Industry Experience:

  • Extensive experience in piping design and drafting within nuclear, chemical, refining, petrochemical, or similarly regulated industrial environments.
  • Advanced proficiency with PDMS and E3D for piping modeling and drafting, including integration of field data into 3D models.
  • Experience preparing, reviewing, and coordinating piping deliverables, including piping layouts, isometric drawings, and construction packages.
  • Experience supporting brownfield projects, including tie-ins, existing facility modifications, and field verification activities.
  • Sound knowledge of applicable piping codes, standards, and regulatory requirements, including ASME Section III, ASME B31.1, and other applicable industry standards.
  • Experience working within nuclear quality assurance programs, including NQA-1 requirements.
  • Understanding of nuclear safety culture, design control processes, configuration management, and documentation requirements.
  • Experience managing P&ID Management of Change (MOC) processes and design scope changes.
  • Competent use of Navisworks, Microsoft Office Suite, and other engineering and document management software.
  • Experience utilizing laser scanning technologies to support piping design and facility modifications is preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary project teams.

Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience as permitted by applicable law.
  • Typically 10 or more years of piping design experience, including experience in a senior or lead piping design role supporting nuclear or similarly regulated industrial projects.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Authorization to work in the United States.
  • Willingness to work in or relocate to the Charleston, West Virginia area.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Navisworks, SharePoint, laser scanning technologies, and point cloud integration.
  • Experience supporting nuclear facility design, modifications, and brownfield engineering projects.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary piping design efforts within large capital projects.
