Job description

Overview

The Electrical Design Manager is responsible for supporting our internal processes associated with Design Build and Design Assist projects, including efforts during the pursuit phase to help us win the projects and after the award, working with our teams and external engineering partners. This position includes supporting the estimating and preconstruction pursuit phase of our projects with document reviews, presentation preparation and delivery, design development and code expertise, helping us secure the work. This position also includes working on projects that we have been awarded and assisting the project team through the design phase, attending design meetings, working with our engineering partners on project design solutions, completing quality control review of progress design submissions and supporting our client to their satisfaction, in alignment with the Company's mission, vision, values, key objectives and code of conduct/ethical business practices.


Responsibilities

  • Supports Preconstruction and Estimating team during the proposal or pursuit phase of the projects, helping develop design ideas, concepts and approaches that enable Bergelectric to successfully response to an RFP / proposal request and effectively prepare and present at an interview, enabling us to successfully be awarded new contracts.
  • Identifies any inconsistent issues, conflicts, and other problems in the bid documents. Prepares "RFI" questions to resolve conflicts and problems.
  • Assist project teams with RFP compliance, design quality control, budgets management, and ensuring project design schedules are achieved.
  • Monitors and manages the projects design, once under contract, as it evolves working with our engineering partners, to ensure the goals and objectives of our RFP response are being met and policies and processes are followed per Company standards. Collaborates with other teams to improve processes and ensure efficiencies.
  • Stays informed of new electrical and safety codes, materials, technologies, techniques and practices.
  • Research and develop value added options and ideas.
  • Builds effective relationships with customers, co-workers, project team, contractors, vendors, suppliers, user groups and others that reflect and suppo1t the Company's core values and meet or exceed the customer's expectations.
  • Interfaces with customer representatives as necessary to ensure successful project completion and maintains effective working relationships for future projects.
  • Occasional travel required when needed, sometimes requiring overnight trips.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience in electrical design or a related field
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience with electrical power, lighting and systems design or design project management and professional engineer (PE) experience.
  • Skills to read, interpret and understand contracts, plans, drawings and specifications.
  • Proficient and current regarding National Electrical Codes and Life Safety Codes
  • Extensive project management training and skills. Thorough understanding of the project life cycle.
  • In-depth experience with LEAN methodologies and applications. Strong process orientation.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership, customer focus and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose problems with strategic thinking skills and detail orientation, as well as to drive timely and appropriate solutions with self-initiative and sensitivity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including high quality documentation and report preparation. Exceptional business development, relationship building and client communication skills.
  • Demonstrated high level of integrity and dependability.\
  • Ability to effectively manage workflow, with minimal oversight, in a fast-paced environment with multiple and sometimes changing priorities.
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Office software applications.
