Senior Electrical Engineer – Fossil Generation

Position Overview

The Senior Electrical Engineer supports and oversees electrical power system design activities for fossil-fired generating plants. This role provides technical leadership, ensures regulatory and QA compliance, and manages multiple design efforts simultaneously.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience in power plant electrical system design, strong project coordination skills, and the ability to independently lead large-scale engineering efforts with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Power System Design

  • Assist in preparing and overseeing electrical power system design activities
  • Develop and review:
    • Scope documents
    • Project schedules and budgets
    • Single-line diagrams
    • Elementary and wiring diagrams
    • Layout and circuitry designs
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards, QA requirements, and federal/state/local regulations

Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical direction to engineers, designers, and drafters
  • Review design details, drawings, and engineering calculations
  • Support checkout and startup of systems as needed
  • Serve as a technical resource across engineering disciplines

Project Coordination

  • Schedule and coordinate engineering projects to meet cost and timeline objectives
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Make independent engineering decisions with appropriate consultation with management

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Communicate effectively with plant operations, maintenance, vendors, and other engineering disciplines
  • Build effective working relationships with plant staff and external partners
  • Support large-scale design efforts at fossil-fired generating facilities

Required Qualifications

  • Accredited Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum 10 years of related experience
  • Strong knowledge of engineering design principles, preferably in: Fossil-fired power plant electrical systems
  • Experience providing technical direction in preparation of: Design details, Drawings, Calculations
  • Experience coordinating projects to meet cost and schedule targets
  • Proficiency with applicable codes, QA standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to work independently on large projects with limited supervision
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using AutoCAD and CAD Overlay
