A Derivatives job involves trading, analyzing, or managing financial contracts whose value is derived from underlying assets like stocks, bonds, commodities, or interest rates. Professionals in this field work in roles such as trading, risk management, structuring, or quantitative analysis. They use mathematical models and market data to price derivatives, assess risk, and develop hedging strategies. These roles are commonly found in investment banks, hedge funds, and financial institutions.
Professionals in Derivatives roles typically analyze market trends, execute and monitor derivative trades, and manage associated risks throughout the trading day. They often collaborate with traders, risk managers, and analysts to develop trading strategies and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Daily tasks may also include pricing complex products, maintaining models, and preparing reports for management. These responsibilities require attention to detail, responsiveness to changing market conditions, and strong teamwork skills to optimize portfolio performance and manage financial risks.
To thrive in a Derivatives role, you need strong quantitative and analytical skills, a solid understanding of financial markets and instruments, and typically a degree in finance, mathematics, or a related field. Proficiency with trading platforms, risk management systems, and programming languages such as Python or VBA is highly valued, as are certifications like CFA or FRM. Excellent attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to work under pressure set top performers apart. These competencies ensure accurate pricing, risk mitigation, and effective collaboration in the fast-paced derivatives market.

The Manager Capital Markets is a hands-on, frontoffice role responsible for executing the company's funding strategy across derivatives, debt issuance, and liquidity management. This role sits at the center of capital markets activity-actively structuring and executing transactions, managing interest rate exposure, and working directly with bank trading desks to manage risk and funding costs.
