Job description

Position Overview

Become a part of our team at the Department of Veterans Medical Center in Palo Alto, CA, as the Physician - Outreach Section Chief!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to the VHA's "Mission Statement," "Code of Ethics," and organizational policies and structure.
  • Oversee the staff within the Outreach Section.
  • Deliver clinical care in the Outreach Section.
  • Handle administrative tasks related to the Outreach Section.
  • Provide guidance to medical house staff and students as necessary.
  • Allocate 0.8 FTE of your role to the Outreach Section, encompassing both administrative and clinical responsibilities. The remaining 0.2 FTE will focus on patient care in another section or program as designated by the Deputy Service Chief. These FTE allocations may be adjusted at the Deputy Service Chief's discretion.
  • Undertake additional tasks as directed by the Deputy Service Chief to fulfill the VA Mission.

Benefits and Perks

  • Salary Range: Anticipated between $294,308 and $315,000, negotiable based on qualifications, credentials, and experience.

  • Education Debt Reduction Program: Available for student loan repayment.

  • Work Schedule: Full-time, with hours to be determined by the supervisor.

  • Compensation: Competitive salary, annual performance bonuses, and regular salary increases.

  • Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid leave annually, including 26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays, and potentially 5 days of paid absence for CME.

  • Retirement Benefits: Traditional federal pension (5-year vesting) and a federal 401K with contributions up to 5% from the organization.

  • Insurance Coverage: Federal health, vision, dental, term life, and long-term care insurance (many federal programs can be continued into retirement).

  • Licensure: Must possess one full and unrestricted medical license from any U.S. state or territory.

  • CME Reimbursement: Up to $1,000 per year available (must be full-time and board certified).

  • Malpractice Coverage: Liability protection provided, including tail coverage.

  • Contractual Terms: No Physician Employment Contract and minimal restrictions on moonlighting.
