Job description

Join Our Team & Make a Real Impact!

Do you thrive on the open road, building relationships face-to-face, and closing deals that make a real difference in people's lives? Are you energized by the challenge of cold calling, walking into a dental office unannounced, and walking out with a new partner? If you are a self-starter who loves being in the field, managing your own territory, and being the face of a company you believe in — this role was built for you.

At Dental Health Services, we are an Employee-Owned company where every team member has a direct stake in our success. Your work in the field will shape the health of our provider network and the lives of our members. This is not a desk job — it is a mission.

Dental Network Territory (Outside Sales) Recruiter

Location: California State (Field-Based — Statewide Travel Required) | Department: Network Development | Reports To: Director of Network Development

Schedule: Full-Time, Monday–Friday | Travel: 75%+ field travel throughout California State

Position Summary

This is a field-first, territory-based role. The Dental Network Territory Recruiter is responsible for building and expanding Dental Health Services' provider network across California State by getting out of the office and into the field — every day. You will drive across your territory, walk into dental practices cold, pick up the phone and make outreach calls, and show up consistently to deepen relationships with existing providers. Think of this as a territory sales role where the product is a partnership and the mission is expanding access to dental HMO care for our members.

You will own your territory. That means prospecting new dentists, negotiating contracts, onboarding providers, resolving issues, and returning regularly to strengthen relationships — just like a seasoned territory sales rep who never lets their accounts go cold.

What This Role Really Looks Like Day-to-Day

This is not a remote desk job. A typical week in this role looks like this:

• Driving your territory across Washington State, planning efficient routes to maximize in-person office visits

• Walking into dental offices — scheduled and unannounced — to introduce Dental Health Services and pitch the value of joining our HMO network

• Making high-volume outbound phone calls to dental offices to set appointments, follow up on proposals, and keep your pipeline moving

• Sitting down with dentists, office managers, and practice owners to present our network participation value proposition and address objections

• Returning regularly to existing provider offices to check in, resolve issues, and deepen the relationship — building the kind of trust that keeps providers in-network long-term

• Attending local dental association events, study clubs, and professional gatherings to expand your presence and referral network

• Managing your territory pipeline in CRM tools, tracking activity, and reporting results to leadership

• Collaborating with internal credentialing and contracting teams to move new providers efficiently from prospect to active network participant

Essential Responsibilities

Territory Prospecting & Cold Outreach

• Conduct daily in-person cold calls to dental offices throughout your assigned California State territory

• Execute high-volume outbound phone prospecting to identify and qualify general dentists and specialists for network participation

• Develop and maintain a robust territory pipeline from initial cold contact through signed contract

• Research competitor networks, identify coverage gaps, and prioritize outreach in underserved areas to meet access-to-care requirements

Relationship Building & Account Management

• Serve as the primary relationship owner for all provider accounts within your territory — visiting regularly, not just once

• Cultivate long-term partnerships with dental practice owners, office managers, and executives at multi-location dental organizations

• Act as a trusted advisor to your providers: anticipate their needs, resolve concerns before they escalate, and continuously demonstrate the value of network participation

• Conduct regular in-office check-ins and relationship calls to maintain high provider satisfaction and reduce attrition

Contracting & Negotiation

• Negotiate provider agreements, compensation structures, and contract terms with dental organization decision-makers

• Partner with Professional Services and Credentialing teams to ensure smooth, timely contract execution and onboarding

• Coordinate additions, changes, and terminations of provider contracts within your territory

Provider Onboarding & Training

• Orient and train newly contracted providers on Dental Health Services plans, quality standards, and administrative processes

• Conduct in-office training sessions on Company tools, provider portals, and plan administration procedures

• Create and deliver compelling presentations that communicate the value of network participation to prospective and current providers

Issue Resolution & Provider Support

• Serve as the first point of contact for provider issues, member service concerns, and grievances within your territory

• Resolve provider and member concerns promptly, professionally, and to the satisfaction of all parties

• Support DMHC and OIC audit preparation by ensuring provider documentation is current and accurate

Reporting & Market Intelligence

• Maintain accurate, up-to-date provider records across internal systems (i.e. provider directories)

• Compile and analyze competitor and market data to identify network needs and growth opportunities

• Deliver timely, accurate territory reports and pipeline updates to leadership on a regular cadence

Who You Are — The Ideal Candidate

• You are genuinely comfortable walking into a business you have never visited before and starting a conversation — cold calling does not intimidate you, it energizes you

• You have a territory sales mindset: you plan your routes, manage your pipeline, and hold yourself accountable to activity metrics and results

• You build relationships that last — providers in your territory will know your name, trust your word, and look forward to your visits

• You are highly self-directed and thrive without someone looking over your shoulder; you know what needs to get done and you go do it

• You are comfortable spending the majority of your work week in your car, in dental offices, and on the phone — not at a desk

• You communicate clearly and persuasively with everyone from a front-desk receptionist to a dental group CEO

Basic Qualifications

Experience

• Minimum 2 years of field sales, territory management, account management, or network recruiting experience

• Experience in dental, healthcare, or insurance preferred; dental HMO or managed care background is a strong plus

• Demonstrated success in cold calling, in-person prospecting, and relationship-based selling

Education

• Bachelor's degree preferred; candidates with 4+ years of relevant field sales or dental industry experience will be considered

Licenses & Requirements

• Valid California State driver's license with a clean DMV record — you will be on the road daily

• Reliable personal vehicle; mileage reimbursement provided

• Ability to obtain and maintain a company charge card for travel and field expenses

Additional Requirements

• Comfortable with 75%+ travel throughout California State, including occasional overnight stays

• Knowledge of dental plan operations, provider services, and HMO/managed care environments

• Familiarity with HIPAA, PHI, and applicable healthcare regulatory requirements

• Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to present and persuade at all levels

• Proficiency in MS Office and CRM tools; experience with Aldera a plus

• Proven ability to negotiate complex provider agreements and compensation structures

• Highly organized with strong time management skills; able to manage a large territory independently

• Working knowledge of Current Dental Terminology (CDT) codes and dental nomenclature preferred

• Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment

Position Details

• Primary Location: Field - California State territory

• Job Schedule: Full-Time

• Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM (overtime as needed)

• Travel: 75%+ field travel required — this is a road-warrior role

If you are ready to hit the road, make an impact, and build something real — we want to hear from you.

Dental Health Services is proud to be an Employee-Owned company. Your success is our success.
