Position Summary

The Delivery Manager is responsible for leading Schmitt Music’s delivery team and ensuring safe, efficient, and professional execution of piano deliveries, store distribution runs, and private customer moves. This role provides leadership for delivery operations, customer communication, training, route coordination, and service standards while also remaining hands-on in the field.

This role is expected to spend the majority of time on the road supporting and executing piano moves, deliveries, and field operations, while also providing oversight and direction for the delivery team. The Delivery Manager serves as the highest level of expertise within the delivery function and is responsible for developing driver capability, maintaining delivery quality standards, and ensuring the highest quality customer experience.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate LMA (Lead, Manage, Accountability) by leading the delivery team, setting expectations for execution and service, and holding the team accountable for safety, professionalism, and results.
  • Oversee daily delivery operations including piano deliveries, store distribution runs, and private customer moves.
  • Coordinate private customer piano moves including quoting, scheduling, customer communication, and oversight of proper handling and protection of instruments.
  • Assist in private customer piano moves as required, providing quality service and communication to customer.
  • Support route planning, staffing, and scheduling to ensure efficient daily execution.
  • Spend the majority of time in the field supporting and performing piano deliveries and moves.
  • Train, coach, and develop delivery team members across Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 roles.
  • Establish, track, and reinforce standards for safe handling, customer interaction, delivery setup, and field professionalism.
  • Support onboarding of new drivers and progression of drivers through the tier structure.
  • Oversee vehicle readiness, equipment condition, and general delivery team preparedness.
  • Maintain communication with warehouse teams, store teams, and leadership regarding delivery priorities and service issues.
  • Identify opportunities to improve delivery processes, customer experience, and team effectiveness.
  • Promote a strong team spirit by ensuring the delivery team remains flexible and ready to support broader company priorities during peak periods.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Work Environment & Expectations

    This position is based in Bloomington, MN and requires regular work on delivery trucks, in warehouse environments, and in customer homes or businesses.

    The role is both hands-on and supervisory, with the majority of time spent in the field supporting deliveries and moves.

    Work involves frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, and maneuvering of large and heavy instruments, including pianos.

    Team members must be able to safely lift, move, and maneuver heavy items with team assistance and proper equipment.

    Work includes both indoor and outdoor environments and exposure to seasonal weather conditions.

    Schmitt Music operates a seasonal business, and delivery demands may increase during peak periods. Team members in this role are expected to demonstrate flexibility, leadership, and a strong team mindset during busy seasons.

    Required Qualifications

    • High School Diploma or GED.
    • Significant experience in piano delivery, moving, or related field operations.
    • Leadership or supervisory experience preferred.

    • Ability to lift and move heavy instruments with team support and proper equipment.
    • Microsoft office (i.e., Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word) experience beneficial.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience training and developing delivery team members.
    • Experience coordinating routes, quoting moves, or managing customer-facing delivery work.
    • Familiarity with warehouse and delivery operations.
