What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Deflection Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Deflection Specialist, you need a background in social work, behavioral health, or criminal justice, often supported by relevant certifications or degrees. Familiarity with case management software, crisis intervention techniques, and community resource systems is typically required. Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and the ability to de-escalate tense situations make someone stand out in this role. These competencies are crucial for effectively connecting individuals with appropriate services, reducing reliance on law enforcement, and promoting positive outcomes in community settings.

What is the difference between Deflection Specialist vs Structural Engineer?

AspectDeflection SpecialistStructural Engineer
CredentialsTypically requires engineering background, certifications in structural analysis or related fieldsRequires engineering degree, PE license, and extensive structural analysis certifications
Work EnvironmentFocuses on analyzing and mitigating deflection issues in structures, often in consulting or testing labsDesigns, analyzes, and oversees construction of structures in various settings
Industry UsageSpecialized within structural analysis, testing, and quality assuranceBroadly used across construction, civil engineering, and infrastructure projects

While both roles require a strong engineering background, a Deflection Specialist primarily focuses on analyzing and addressing deflection issues in structures, often working in testing or consulting environments. A Structural Engineer has a broader scope, designing and overseeing structural projects from conception to completion. Understanding these differences helps in choosing the right career path or job search focus.

How does a Deflection Specialist typically collaborate with law enforcement and community organizations to support individuals in crisis?

A Deflection Specialist works closely with law enforcement, behavioral health providers, and local community organizations to connect individuals in crisis with appropriate resources, such as mental health care or substance use treatment, as an alternative to arrest or incarceration. Collaboration often involves joint case meetings, sharing relevant information (while maintaining confidentiality), and developing individualized support plans. Deflection Specialists act as liaisons, ensuring smooth communication between all parties and facilitating timely intervention. This teamwork is essential for providing holistic support and improving outcomes for those in need.

What is a Deflection Specialist?

A Deflection Specialist is a professional who helps redirect individuals, often those experiencing behavioral health or substance use issues, away from the criminal justice system and toward appropriate support services. They work with law enforcement, social services, and community organizations to assess needs and connect people to treatment, housing, or other resources. The goal of a Deflection Specialist is to reduce incarceration rates and promote positive outcomes for individuals and the community by providing alternatives to arrest or prosecution.

Job description

Ponte Vedra Beach, FL ยท On-Site

A homeowner's AC goes down at 4pm on a Friday. Their first call is to us. How that call goes determines everything โ€” and that's your moment.

Lickety Split's promise is simple: show up fast, do it right, and treat the customer like royalty. The Customer Concierge Specialist is the person who makes that promise real. You're not just answering phones โ€” you're the first moment of relief in what is often a stressful day. You own the customer's experience from first contact through resolution, and you don't let go until it's right.

What sets this role apart:

Own It

You see every issue through to resolution

Solve It

Real problems, real decisions

Feel It

You'll know when you've genuinely helped

What you'll do

  • Be the first voice a homeowner hears โ€” warm, confident, and in control of the situation
  • Gather information quickly, assess urgency, and coordinate the right response
  • Manage scheduling, dispatch communication, and customer updates throughout the service visit
  • Handle complaints, service recovery situations, and follow-ups with ownership โ€” not deflection
  • Identify when a situation needs escalation and move on it fast
  • Leave every customer feeling like they were the only call that mattered today

You bring

  • 2+ years in customer service, hospitality, or a high-touch service environment
  • Calm under pressure โ€” you don't rattle when a customer does
  • Strong listener who can read between the lines of what a customer is really saying
  • Problem-solver first, process-follower second
  • Home services experience is a plus, not a requirement

What you get

  • Competitive base pay + performance bonus
  • Full benefits: medical, dental, vision
  • Paid training and ongoing development
  • A team that takes the customer experience seriously
  • Real growth path in a company on the rise

We're looking for people who take pride in the moment a frustrated customer becomes a loyal one.

Lickety Split is an equal opportunity employer.
