Position Overview:

BWXT is seeking an exceptional Lean Six Sigma (LSS) Leader to help shape the future of our operations. In this pivotal role, you will elevate performance, strengthen collaboration, and champion a culture of continuous improvement across the organization.

Your Day to Day as an Operational Excellence Unit Manager:

  • Strategic Collaboration: Partner with site leadership to uncover and prioritize significant opportunities for eliminating waste and reducing variation across processes. Collaborate with the broader Government Operations (GO) OpEx leadership team to set and execute strategic initiatives for building OpEx team capabilities and establishing a culture of operational excellence across GO.
  • Impactful Sessions: Lead strategic planning and project selection sessions with site management, ensuring alignment and focus on goals that matter.
  • Project Leadership: Take charge of highly visible strategic and complex process improvement projects, guiding them to successful outcomes.
  • Motivate for Success: Inspire and direct the NFS OpEx team to achieve spectacular results through the application of LSS principles, methodologies, and tools.
  • Provide Technical and Leadership Expertise: Offer insightful technical and managerial guidance and support, providing mentoring and oversight throughout the year for your team of OpEx employees.
  • Cultivate Future Leaders: Mentor Master Black Belts, Black Belts, and Lean Kaizen Leaders through their certification journeys, fostering the next generation of leaders for OpEx and for BWXT.
  • Certification Reviews: Conduct independent reviews for Black Belt certifications, ensuring high standards of excellence.
  • Enhance Learning: Provide constructive feedback during dry runs and participate in project report-outs, promoting a culture of growth and improvement.
  • Training Design & Delivery: Design, develop, and deliver engaging training programs that support LSS deployment and elevate capabilities across the organization.
  • Measure Success: Estimate both soft and hard benefits (Cost of Poor Quality - COPQ) for a variety of process improvement projects, showcasing your team's impact on the bottom line. Manage your cost center within annual expense and load board (direct hour) budgets.

Required Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Educational Background: A minimum of a bachelor’s degree. 
  • Experience Matters: At least 5 years of related LSS or Continuous Improvement experience is essential and includes proven experience as a certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt (or equivalent certification) with a track record of driving change and delivering results. 
  • Change Management Guru: Demonstrable change management expertise, with the ability to influence and secure commitment at all organizational levels.
  • Talented Facilitator: A skilled facilitator with a knack for leading diverse teams and forging positive working relationships.
  • Exceptional Coach: Successful leadership experience in coaching, teaching, and mentoring others to elevate their skills and performance.
  • Interpersonal Excellence: Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills that enable you to connect effectively with others.
  • Results-Driven: A focus on driving change; results-oriented with strong business acumen, technical aptitude, and a team-oriented mindset.
  • Citizenship & Clearance Requirements: U.S. citizenship. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.
  • On-Site Role: Must be able to report to work at our NOG-M location in Mt. Vernon, IN.

 

Preferred Additional Qualifications:

  • Technical undergraduate degree in engineering, science, or math. MBA a plus.
  • Master Black Belt certification.
  • Experience including heavy equipment, low volume, manufacturing preferred.
  • Diverse Background: Functional experience across multiple disciplines such as engineering, manufacturing, quality, and project management.
  • Experience managing personnel.

Pay: $99,000 - $157,000

The base salary range for this position in Indiana (US-IN) at the start of employment is expected to be between $99,000 and $157,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.  The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
