Job description

JOB PURPOSE
The Commercial HVAC Technician will be responsible for servicing, diagnosing, repairing, installing, and maintaining a wide range of HVAC systems across commercial facilities, including high-rise condominiums, schools, and large campuses. You will be expected to execute Preventive Maintenance (PM) programs, perform retrofits and changeouts, and ensure equipment is operating at peak efficiency.
This is a hands-on, field-based role that requires strong technical ability, excellent documentation skills, and professional interaction with customers and team members.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Service and maintain a wide range of HVAC equipment including:
    • Cooling Towers
    • Chillers
    • Water Source Heat Pumps (WSHP)
    • Split Systems and Mini Splits
    • Water Pumps and Boilers
    • Rooftop Units (RTU)
  • Perform all service types:
    • Preventive Maintenance (PM)
    • Retrofits and Changeouts
    • Troubleshooting and Diagnostics
    • New Installations
  • Read and interpret mechanical and electrical plans/drawings for accurate execution.
  • Provide exceptional customer service through professional communication and clear updates.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed documentation in the company CRM for all service requests and completed work orders.
  • Work collaboratively with ABC Mechanical leadership, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Ensure proper van stock inventory management and maintain an organized and clean service vehicle.
  • Comply with all safety regulations, company SOPs, and industry best practices.
  • Mentor and assist junior team members when required.
  • Follow federal and state laws, as well as established company policies.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Education: Minimum high school diploma or GED required. Continuing education in HVAC, construction, or facilities management preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial HVAC service and maintenance.
Certifications: EPA Universal Certification required. NATE or equivalent certifications welcome.
Licenses: Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
Technical Knowledge:
  • VFD controls
  • Low-voltage troubleshooting and control wiring
  • Professional Skills:
  • Ability to supervise and oversee subcontractors during repairs or installs.
  • Strong mathematical, administrative, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • High drive, accountability, and a "can do" team-first attitude.
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and CRM systems.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Possible travel required to off-site locations including overnight trips.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
  • Ensure HVAC systems are maintained to industry standards with strategies that enhance building efficiency.
  • Track, document, and report on open projects, preventive maintenance, parts, tools, mileage, and labor weekly/monthly.
  • Execute oversight of special projects, assist with construction/retrofit issues, and maintain consistent communication with customers.
  • Deliver solutions, not just repairs--approach every call with a focus on diagnosing root causes and preventing future issues.
