Overview

JOB SUMMARY:

The NICU Director is expected to perform duties in alignment with the mission and policies of the organization.  Performs duties in support of and in compliance with the performance improvement plan, The Joint Commission and other licensing, accrediting, and regulatory agencies.  The NICU Director shall directly supervise personnel and assure the quality of clinical nursing care of patients in the NICU at all times.  The facility shall maintain written documentation of the qualification and responsibilities of the CCS certified community NICU Director.

Assumes responsibility for the results of decisions made, both by his/her team

Collaborates with the administrator in planning, marketing, developing, implementing and evaluating various programs

Provide resource to all related department and staff.

Effectively manages nursing operation including material and financial resources

Reviews staffing patterns, census and acuity of nursing units to see that staffing is consistent with the patient needs and budgetary constraints

Maintains effective interpersonal relationships with physicians, staff, patients, and families

Acts as a role model to promote the professional role of the nurse

Demonstrates professional growth and development based on current nursing theory

Maintains active participation in an ongoing Performance Improvement Program

Coordinates the implementation of established standards of practice based on GMCs Standards, Policies and Procedures, TJC, Title 22, and other regulatory agencies

Participates in effective personnel management through the selection, training, and evaluation of nursing staff

Promotes the Department of Nursing commitment to patient and nursing education

Assists in the development of short and long term plans for the department of Nursing which are consistent with the hospital's goals and strategic objectives

Maintains open and effective communication

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

  • A graduate of state accredited school of nursing. BS in Nursing
  • Current CA RN license required.
  • Current NRP and BLS (AHA) certifications required
  • Certificate of completion from NICU training program
  • 3 years of clinical nursing experience with a minimum of 1 year in a regional or community NICU.
  • NICU CCRN preferred
