The Commercial Decision Sciences team at Amgen serves as a key partner to the Commercial organization by ensuring data-driven insights and recommendations around promotional investments and strategies are provided to the organization to drive actionable insights.ย 
As the Executive Director of Commercial Decision Sciences, you will lead a team of Senior Directors and oversee a total team size of over 20 U.S.-based individuals with indirect oversight of an additional 50 individuals located in Portugal and India. ย The Executive Director of Decision Sciences is a senior commercial leader responsible for advancing data-driven decision-making across marketing, media, and promotional investment.
This role leads a critical function within the Commercial organization, delivering advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI-powered modeling to optimize promotional spend and enable effective omnichannel orchestration across the brand lifecycle. Operating with significant autonomy, the role partners closely with senior marketing, brand, sales, and finance leaders to ensure that analytics insights directly inform commercial strategy and in-line optimization for our priority brands. The Executive Director of Decision Sciences translates complex analytical outputs into clear, actionable recommendations that guide investment trade-offs, scenario planning, and performance management across brands and channels.
This position establishes and leads a high-performing Decision Sciences team, building scalable capabilities in omnichannel measurement, promotional effectiveness, and optimization. By integrating insights across media, digital engagement, sales activity, and market dynamics, the role helps improve the efficiency and effectiveness of commercial investments while supporting consistent, compliant, and patient- and HCP-centric engagement.
As a trusted advisor to Commercial leadership, the Executive Director of Decision Sciences drives the adoption of advanced analytics into routine decision-making, elevates analytical rigor across the organization, and contributes meaningfully to the success of product launches, sustained in-line growth, and long-term commercial performance.
Additionally, the Executive Director of Decision Sciences will play a pivotal role within the CD&A leadership team, collaborating closely with colleagues to ensure alignment and synergies across functions. This individual will work hand-in-hand with leaders from market research, analytics, competitive intelligence, field excellence, and other relevant areas to leverage their insights and expertise in developing comprehensive strategies and plans.
In summary, this role represents an exciting opportunity to lead a talented team and collaborate with diverse stakeholders across the organization to develop, enhance and maintain robust data strategies and quarterly implementation plans that help fuel the analytical and reporting needs of the business, drive business growth and innovation in the dynamic pharmaceutical industry landscape.
This position will report to the AVP of Portfolio Effectiveness and Optimization and will be responsible for the following pillars within the Commercial Decision Science team:
Strategic Leadership & Vision
Define and execute the long-term vision for Decision Sciences, including data science, media analytics, and investment optimization aligned with overall commercial and enterprise strategy
Partner with senior commercial leaders to establish performance goals, success metrics, and analytics roadmaps that support product launches, in-line growth, and lifecycle management
Advocate for and influence the company's data and technology roadmap to ensure adoption of innovative data sources, analytical products, and advanced capabilities that improve investment efficiency and effectiveness
Serve as a strategic advisor to leadership on emerging trends in analytics, AI/ML, media measurement, and commercial optimization
Commercial Spend Optimization
Oversee enterprise frameworks to allocate, track, and optimize brand commercial spend across and within channels
Evaluate ROI, incremental impact, and cost-effectiveness of commercial activities to maximize value
Lead the development and application of advanced analytical methodologies, including Marketing Mix Modeling (MMM), attribution analysis, uplift modeling, and scenario simulation
Enable forward-looking planning through forecasting, optimization engines, and what-if scenario analysis to guide future investment decisions
Media Analytics & Campaign Measurement
Lead the design and evolution of media measurement methodologies across digital, traditional, and emerging channels
Drive cross-channel effectiveness analysis to identify optimal media mix, frequency, and sequencing strategies
Deliver actionable insights on audience engagement, reach, conversion, and patient and HCP behavior to improve campaign performance and targeting
Ensure consistent measurement standards while adapting approaches to changing privacy regulations and data availability
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Collaborate closely with marketing, sales, finance, value, and access, medical, technology, and data strategy teams to ensure analytics solutions are aligned with business needs and compliant with regulatory requirements
Support commercial teams with data-driven recommendations for launch strategy design, in-line optimization, and lifecycle investment decisions
Function as the primary liaison with external media agencies, analytics partners, and technology vendors, ensuring high-quality delivery and value realization
Influence stakeholders to adopt insights and embed analytics into day-to-day decision-making
Team Leadership & Capability Building
Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing team of data scientists, analysts, engineers, and analytics leaders
Build scalable internal capabilities in advanced analytics, media measurement, budget optimization, and forecasting
Foster a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and experimentation in commercial investments
Establish best practices, standards, and governance for analytics development and deployment
Reporting & Executive Communication
Translate complex analytical findings into clear, compelling insights and recommendations for executive leadership and key stakeholders
Deliver regular, concise updates on commercial spend performance, media ROI, optimization opportunities, and risks
Support executive decision forums with fact-based perspectives and scenario analyses

Drive standardization and scalability of decision sciences solutions across brands
