Job description


Roles & Responsibilities:
The Saez lab in the Neuroscience, Neurosurgery and Neurology departments at Mount Siani is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher with expertise in human electrophysiology, decision-making modeling and/or mood disorders (major depressive disorder, MDD). The candidate will carry out research on the neurobiological basis of human cognition, focused on decision-making behavior. The research project will involve (1) working with patients in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit and/or the Operating Room who are undergoing intracranial (electrocorticography, stereotactic EEG, deep-brain stimulation, voltammetry) recordings, (2) administering decision-making and other cognitive tasks and (3) analyzing the resulting datasets through computational modeling. Research paradigms will be conducted in close collaboration with the clinical Neurosurgery and Neurology teams.
Requirements:
A PhD, or MD/PhD in a relevant field (Neuroscience, Psychology, Biomedical engineering or related discipline) is required.
Experience in intracranial recordings, electrophysiology (local field potentials and/or single-unit recordings), electrochemistry (fast-scan cyclic voltammetry) and computational models of valuation and choice are all highly desirable.
Strong programming skills (Matlab, R, Python) are a must. Experience with electrophysiology analysis suites (EEGlab, Fieldtrip) a plus.
Deep understanding of statistical methods required. Experience with machine learning algorithms a plus.
Excellent communication and writing skills (including presentation skills).
Ability to thrive in a highly collaborative program and comfortable navigating a clinical environment.
Must be capable of designing and conducting experiments independently, writing manuscripts and grant applications, and presenting their research at international meetings.
