About the Role

Start your manufacturing career with an industry leader! PDS Tech Commercial is seeking dependable and detail-oriented Metal Control Operators to join a high-precision production team.

In this essential role, you will work as part of a team to condition rough metal castings into high-spec finished components for industrial applications. You will gain hands-on experience across metal cleaning, finishing, dimensional gauging, and surface inspection in a fast-paced, quality-focused facility.

Key Responsibilities

Metal Finishing & Deburring

  • Finish castings using hand grinding tools, belts, stones, burrs, and templates to meet Product Criteria (PC).

  • Perform decap/deburr operations and map weld areas.

  • Sandblast components to achieve required surface finishes.

  • Use boroscopes, fiber lights, and visual inspection tools to check part quality.

Metal Cleaning & Surface Prep

  • Set up and operate hand sandblast cabinets, auto-blast units, glass bead equipment, and sonic/water-flow cleaners.

  • Maintain proper blast pressure and speed according to Activity Instructions (AI).

  • Clean and inspect castings for potential scrap or surface defects.

Dimensional Inspection & Precision Adjustment

  • Inspect parts using precision instruments including calipers, micrometers (reading down to .0001"), height gauges, shim stock, and go/no-go gauges.

  • Adjust castings using hydraulic/manual presses, heat, or dimensional tooling to meet customer specifications.

  • Log inspection and quality data accurately into production computer systems.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams on deviant castings and rework instructions.

Qualifications & Requirements

Required:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalency.

  • Technical Aptitude: Ability to read/interpret written SOPs, blueprints, gauging instructions, and templates.

  • Precision Skills: Basic math skills and the ability to learn precision measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges).

  • Computer Basics: Familiarity with basic computer data entry.

  • Work Ethic: Strong attendance record, teamwork mindset, and ability to work under general supervision in a fast-paced environment.

Physical & Operational Requirements:

  • Ability to handle prolonged standing, gripping, sitting, pushing, pulling, and manual lifting.

  • Good manual dexterity and visual acuity for close-up inspections.

  • Willingness to work overtime as production demands require.
