Job description

We are preparing to hire Debris Monitors in Texas Hill Country to aid in recovery efforts from the recent flooding.


The schedule for this position will be 7 days/week, 10-14 hours/day. Rate of pay is $18 per hour. Paychecks will be issued bi-weekly. Work will be located within Kendall, Uvalde, Bandera, and Gillespie Counties.


This is a temporary assignment. No experience is required, training will be provided to you.


Cell phone is required. Minimum phone requirements: Android device equivalent to or better than iPhone 13 *Motorola and Xiaomi devices are not compatible.*


What you’ll be doing:

  • Oversee debris removal and ensure compliance.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and validate contractor load tickets and debris disposal records.
    • Report to assigned staging area
    • Receive your materials/supplies/equipment/information
    • Attend safety & operations meeting
  • Ensure all debris removal activities comply with FEMA, state, and local regulations.
    • Monitor and observe all loading activities
    • Make sure Contractors pick up all eligible storm-related debris
    • Observe surroundings for possible hazards
  • Utilize an electronic debris tracking system to document all debris removal operations. Generate daily, weekly and final reports detailing debris removal progress.
    • Fill out Load Tickets completely and accurately
    • Record any damages caused by a Contractor

What you need to have:

  • Valid driver's license (not suspended), MVR must be cleared before you can begin work
  • Cell phone (must be a smart phone with data plan and storage availability)
    • Minimum phone requirements: Android device equivalent to or better than iPhone 13 (e.g., Google Pixel 9a/10a, Samsung Galaxy A35/A36, OnePlus 12R/13R, or similar with 6GB+ RAM, 128GB+ storage, and modern processor). iPhone 13 or newer also accepted. Motorola and Xiaomi devices are not compatible.”
  • Reliable transportation for driving to various locations
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Basic math skills - measurements (weight, volume, and distance)
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to speak and read English fluently
  • Ability to use handheld electronic devices (digital camera, GPS unit) with minimal oversight
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines.
  • A satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR).

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 30lbs at times
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking, slippery conditions due to walking on riverbanks
  • Ability to work 10 to 14-hour days up to 7 days a week
  • Be able to climb staircases and ladders at least 10 feet
  • Be able to work outdoors in all types of weather as required
  • Ability to withstand constant exposure to outside elements
