What is a Dealership Car Transport job?

A Dealership Car Transport job involves moving vehicles between dealerships, auctions, or customers. Drivers ensure cars are delivered safely and on time, often using transport trucks or single-vehicle trailers. This role requires attention to detail, adherence to safety regulations, and sometimes customer interaction. It may also involve inspecting vehicles for damage before and after transport.

How to get into transporting cars?

To become a dealership car transport driver, you typically need a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and sometimes a commercial driver's license (CDL) depending on the vehicle type. Experience with driving large vehicles and knowledge of transportation regulations are also helpful. Many companies require background checks and may provide on-the-job training.

How much do dealerships pay to transport cars?

Dealerships typically pay between $150 and $500 per vehicle for car transport services, depending on factors such as distance, vehicle size, and transport method. These skills ensure vehicles are transported securely, efficiently, and in compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements.

How much does a car salesman make on a $30,000 car?

A car salesperson typically earns a commission based on the profit or a percentage of the sale price, often around 20-30%. For a $30,000 car, this could translate to $600 to $900 in commission, depending on the dealership's commission structure and profit margins. Additional bonuses or incentives may also apply.

What are the common challenges faced in a Dealership Car Transport role?

Dealership Car Transport professionals often face challenges such as navigating tight delivery schedules, dealing with unexpected traffic or weather conditions, and ensuring each vehicle is loaded, secured, and delivered without damage. Adapting to various vehicle types, coordinating with dealership staff, and handling paperwork or digital tracking systems are also part of the daily routine. The role can require long hours on the road and sometimes overnight trips, so a high level of organization and resilience is essential. Working successfully in this position often means being proactive about safety and communication to maintain a smooth workflow.
