Job description

LOCATION

Endicott Island MPI

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

This position is seasonal, with employment occurring throughout the 2026 Nuiqsut whaling season.  Work hours are 12 hours per day, seven days per week.  Work will begin at the start of the whaling season as determined by the Nuiqsut Whaling Captains Association.  The whaling season typically starts around August 25th. Communications Center Operators would arrive a day before the start of whaling to attend orientation and training.  Nuiqsut whaling activities usually last approximately two weeks, but may last longer due to weather conditions and other factors. This position is based at Hilcorp’s Endicott Operations Center.


Travel between the Deadhorse area and home will be paid. Transportation arrangements between Prudhoe Bay/Deadhorse and Endicott will be provided. Hilcorp will provide a vehicle for use on the job in Deadhorse.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Personnel transport to/from Endicott and the Deadhorse airport, and coordination and arrangement of pick-up and delivery of goods to support the Nuiqsut whale hunt. A truck will be provided.
  • Be available by phone or radio contact to assist and provide information to Nuiqsut Whaling Communications Center Operators while on duty.
  • Work with 2026 Nuiqsut Communications Center Operators to arrange for pick-up and delivery of personnel, goods, materials, equipment, and supplies from various locations.
  • Keep a daily log of activities performed (e.g., picking up X people at Deadhorse airport and transporting them to West Dock for pickup by the whaling crew, picking up supplies for one or more whaling crews in Deadhorse and transporting them to Endicott for pickup by personnel traveling to Cross Island, etc.).
  • During the demobilization of Cross Island, the Expeditor shall assist the barge crew with retrieving materials from Cross Island; the Expeditor must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Other duties as assigned.


REQUIREMENTS

  • Fluency in speaking Inupiaq and English
  • Valid driver’s license
  • All training necessary to drive within the North Slope oilfields
  • Ability to effectively communicate with Nuiqsut whaling crews, family members of Nuiqsut whaling crews, Alaska Eskimo Whaling Commission representatives, Hilcorp representatives, and other similar individuals and entities involved with 2026 Nuiqsut whaling activities
  • Previous work experience in whaling activities and communications center activities preferred
  • Working knowledge of how Nuiqsut whaling is conducted
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals in an oilfield camp setting
  • Understanding of Nuiqsut subsistence whaling importance for Nuiqsut and the North Slope communities
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Nuiqsut resident preference
