Job description

The Skokie Park District has an immediate opening for a year-round, part-time teacher. The Tot Learning Center is a DCFS licensed, NAEYC accredited childcare program that provides full-day, year-round childcare for infants and children aged six weeks to 5 years of age. 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Under the direction of the Childcare Services Manager and the Head Teacher, participates in planning and implementing appropriate activities promoting the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development of young children.
  • Assists in the supervision of children and is responsible for ensuring their health, safety and overall well-being. 
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of an environment which is stimulating, inviting, and responsive to the needs of the children enrolled in the program and their families.
  • Establishes a nurturing relationship with the children and serves as an appropriate role model for them.
  • Assists in maintaining necessary records and reports pertaining to the children in the Early Childhood Teacher's care, and as required by the Department of Children and Family Services, DCFS.
  • Assists in providing a flexible program which is responsive and individualized to the immediate needs or demands of a particular child or situation.
  • Assists in the care of classroom equipment and materials and maintains an organized and neat environment.
  • As assigned and required by the supervising staff and University Coordinator the student teacher participates in staff meetings, staff trainings and program-related activities.
  • Works cooperatively and communicates clearly with other staff, supervisors, parents, and the public.
  • Assists with the coordination of one or more of the following areas; field trip program, in-service training, special events, monthly newsletters, intakes, scheduling, enrollment, and other program-related activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

OTHER DUTIES

Must have a strong interest in working with children.  Adheres to and actively enforces the safety responsibilities and safety procedures as outlined in the District's Safety Manual and overall risk management program.

Hours:

This is a part-time job for about 20 hours/week. Monday-Friday working with toddlers. Hours available from 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm 


** This job fall in paygrade PT4. The target hiring range for this position is beginning at $16 - $19.25 depending on qualifications.

Must be an adult 18 years of age and older. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent GED. Prefer some college credit hours in ECE or Child Development. Prefer at least one year experience as a child care worker at a DCFS licensed, NAEYC accredited childcare facility.

Current medical examination, immunization records, TB Test, and all related forms as deemed necessary by the Skokie Park District, NAEYC and DCFS. In addition, must attend a minimum of 24 hours of in service training. Must be able to obtain and keep current CPR, First Aid and AED certifications.
