Job description

The External Relations Representative TPT position exists to provide technical and administrative support to the Senior Advisor to the President through researching information relating to Capitol Hill statistics and headlines, representing FOF at legislative and community events in Washington DC, and through the creation, maintenance, and distribution of management reports, memos, and other presentation documents; requires only general direction and works independently; refers unusual or complex problems to supervisor.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Represents Focus on the Family at legislative and community events in the Washington DC area by attending briefings, meetings, and other external events on behalf of the organization, to make contacts and develop relationships that enhance FOF /VP’s presence in DC
  • At each event, is prepared with proper information to be able to speak on behalf of Focus on the Family and articulate our stance and core values
  • Is discerning, in knowing when to speak up and when to remain silent and listen
  • Interacts with fellow ministries in the Washington D.C. area regularly, promoting the Focus on the Family relationship and speaking to coalition groups about related projects
  • Attends conferences and events in the Washington D.C. area on behalf of Focus on the Family
  • Assists Focus on the Family in various Washington DC projects; follows up to ensure a timely response to projects and assignments
  • Maintains a full understanding of current issues and Focus on the Family’s response to those issues in order to promote or defend our position when appropriate
  • Facilitates and coordinates communication among the Colorado Springs office, the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate offices, and other ministry partners
  • Plans meetings and various events for Senior Advisor to the President and other constituents, both on Capitol Hill and in other areas in conjunction with others; Acts as liaison to other ministries interested in meeting with DC office
  • Assists with all deals and projects in which the Senior Advisor to the President, is involved
  • Serves as point of contact for all office inquiries; reviews, assesses, and filters all inquiries and either responds appropriately or directs to someone who can 
  • Researches and compiles information on behalf of supervisor, relating to Capitol Hill statistics, headlines, and other newsworthy material
  • Assists and relieves supervisor of a variety of duties; utilizes independent judgment, determining when to act for supervisor and when to refer problems for personal attention; participates in special projects involving in-depth familiarity with ministry
  • Manages the Senior Advisor to the President’s schedule and travel arrangements, providing information to the appropriate contact for reimbursement; maintains supervisor's office calendar; arranges meetings with employees and constituency
  • Oversees office expenses in partnership with Colorado Springs office
  • Handles concerns and repairs of office building: coordinates repairs, alerts property managers of conditions, field inspectors and other various duties relating to building maintenance

Other Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Maintains files for reports, etc.
  • Coordinates special projects as assigned
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Personal Characteristics:

  • Self-starter; able to work simultaneously with several projects; decisive, flexible, approachable, and detail-oriented

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, Marketing, or related field
  • 2-4 years of experience in administration/budgeting or related field
  • Working knowledge of FOF mission, philosophy, values, and objectives
  • Knowledge of various software applications, i.e. Windows, Word, Excel, MS Project, PowerPoint, Access, etc.

Pay Range: $35.00 to $42.00\hr
