Job description

Job Title: Operations Supervisor

Reports To: Operations Manager / Assistant Manager / Service Center Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt

Shift Days: Sunday thru Thursday

Shift Hours: Sundays start time between 2pm and 4pm working 8 - 10 hours and rest of the week coming in between midnight and 2am working 8 - 10 hours a day.

Summary:

Daylight Transport is currently seeking a results-driven Operations Supervisor to lead a shift or designated section within our service center. This role is responsible for ensuring the team meets company standards for safety, quality, efficiency, cost, service, training, and housekeeping.

The ideal candidate will be skilled in managing daily operations, monitoring freight movement, and maintaining clear communication with independent contractors, associates, customers, and internal teams. Strong decision-making abilities, attention to detail, and a commitment to continuous improvement are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage employee work schedules and time-off requests.
  • Collaborate with leadership to meet daily, weekly, monthly, and annual operational goals.
  • Conduct daily inspections to ensure compliance with safety regulations (OSHA, local/state/federal).
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement in all service center operations.
  • Utilize internal freight monitoring systems and operating software effectively.
  • Monitor freight movement to ensure timely and accurate handling.
  • Ensure forklift certification and training are maintained.
  • Make informed staffing and operational decisions based on volume and resource needs.
  • Be flexible to work shifts based on customer pickup and delivery schedules.
  • Observe and coach employees on safety protocols and proper lifting/forklift techniques.
  • Collaborate with Linehaul Operations to maintain freight flow and service quality.
  • Supervise dock operations, including employee placement, equipment usage, and loading/unloading processes, to meet Daylight and customer expectations.


Supervisory Responsibilities Yes – this position supervises dock staff and operational team members.


Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field preferred.

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret basic documents and correspondence.
  • Comfortable presenting to individuals and small groups.
  • Proficient in basic math: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals.
  • Analytical and quick-thinking with the ability to solve routine problems.
  • Computer literate (PC and mainframe systems); prior experience with freight or logistics software preferred.
  • Forklift experience is a plus.
  • Flexible availability to align with customer schedules.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to sit, reach with hands/arms, use hands to handle objects, and communicate clearly.
  • Visual requirements include close vision.
