The Rockaway YMCA is looking for a Fitness CenterCoach who will oversee fitness areas and provide outstandinghospitality to ensure a positive and safe user experience.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide orientation and instruction onproper usage of fitness equipment to members - adults and teens.
  • Provide outstanding hospitality to allmembers and guests.  Outstandinghospitality is acting as a proactive agent - initiating a professionalrelationship with the members in regard to their needs, concerns, andquestions and acting as an agent to accommodate the member's needs/concerns.
  • Assist members in effectively utilizingfitness equipment.
  • Understand the basic fitness principlesand be aware of current fitness programs and trends.
  • Monitor fitness areas to ensurecompliance with YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Provide members with opportunities thatwill increase their involvement, sense of belonging, and ownership of the YMCA.
  • Perform equipment inspections andreport results to supervisor.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in thefitness center.
  • Obtain shift coverage when unable toreport to work.
  • Make phone calls to members, as needed.
  • Maintain required certifications,tracked in Club Connect.
  • Actively participate in trainingsessions and designated meetings.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of branchemergency procedures and take appropriate action for emergency situations.
  • Support community and promotionalspecial events as needed.


Desired Skills & Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent desirable.
  • Minimum age -18 years old.
  • Experience working in a health andfitness environment.
  • Current CPR / First Aid / AEDcertifications.
  • Knowledge of Principles of Member Health & Wellness.
  • Orientation toHealthy Living at the Y.
  • Foundations of Strength and Conditioning.
  • Foundations ofListen First
  • Attend current hospitalitytraining within 90 days of hire.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Mustbe available to work afternoons, and weekends.
