Job description

Sterile Processing Manager

Location: Omaha, NE 68114
Job Type: Travel / Temporary-to-Permanent
Schedule: Primarily Days | 8- or 10-hour shifts
Hours: Variable, approximately 6:30 AM–4:30 PM

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Sterile Processing Manager to oversee daily operations of a Sterile Processing Department (SPD) within an acute-care hospital environment. The ideal candidate will have strong sterile processing leadership experience, knowledge of sterilization standards, and the ability to manage staff, workflows, and operational priorities across multiple shifts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily Sterile Processing Department operations, including support across all shifts.
  • Lead, supervise, and support sterile processing staff.
  • Ensure proper decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, storage, and distribution of surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Maintain compliance with infection prevention, quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with Operating Room (OR), Perioperative Services, Infection Prevention, and other clinical departments.
  • Monitor staffing levels, workflow, productivity, and overall department performance.
  • Identify and address operational issues in a timely manner.
  • Support continuous process improvement and quality initiatives.
  • Ensure appropriate processes and procedures are followed throughout the sterile processing workflow.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and support to staff to maintain efficient department operations.
  • Perform other duties related to sterile processing operations and departmental leadership as assigned.
Requirements
  • Previous Sterile Processing management or supervisory experience required.
  • Experience working in an acute-care hospital environment required.
  • Strong knowledge of sterile processing, instrument reprocessing, and sterilization standards.
  • Strong leadership and staff-management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to manage departmental operations in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Relevant Sterile Processing certification preferred.
Schedule Requirements
  • Primarily day shift.
  • 8- or 10-hour shifts.
  • Candidate must be flexible and available to provide leadership and operational support across all shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, or other coverage needs when required.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced SPD leader or manager with acute-care hospital experience who understands the complete sterile processing workflow and can effectively manage staff, maintain regulatory compliance, collaborate with perioperative teams, and improve department efficiency.
