Job Purpose

To operate forklifts safely and efficiently; handles all freight inbound or outbound properly and orderly; maintain warehouse area with orderly stacking and good housekeeping; loading / unloading of RJW truck / trailers and outside carriers safely and using proper procedures; ensures all shipments are correctly staged, checked, and loaded properly; responsible for properly storing stock in the warehouse; performs duties to provide material handling services for warehouse shipping and receiving handling activities. Works from warehouse operations sheets using a forklift to pick customer orders and load on trailers. Maintains forklift safety at all times following all safety policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assists Cross Dock Supervisor to ensure efficient operation of the warehouse. Ability to operate sit down forklift and/or EPJs. Utilize RF Scanner, loading and unloading using forklift, QC, wrapping, staging and labeling. General understanding of computers and handheld RF equipment. Loads and unloads RJW truck / trailers safely and efficiently using proper procedures, including outside carriers equipment. Flexible to work 10 to 12 hours shifts when necessary and not afraid of heights. Picking and moving stock from 1 lb. to 50 lbs. multiple times. Ensures all shipments are correctly staged and loaded properly. Maintains warehouse area with orderly stacking and good housekeeping. Processing outbound cross-dock freight as necessary. Oversees storing stock properly in the warehouse and moving product into the dock staging lanes or racks. Works from warehouse operations sheets using a forklift to pick customer orders and load on trailers. Records and verifies the accuracy of the shipments against the paperwork for incoming and outgoing shipments / deliveries. Ensures all documentation and paperwork is properly completed. Operates forklifts safely and efficiently following all OSHA regulations, RJW safety policies, and procedures. This includes wearing of seatbelts at all times when operating the forklift. Completes daily forklift maintenance inspections. Handles all customer products properly and orderly. Checks deliveries for poor packing, general condition of materials, and free of damage. Alerts Warehouse Supervisor of any problems, taking pictures if necessary. Reports all accidents / incidents, to employee, damage of stock, or building damage to the Shift Supervisor immediately. Spotting of trailers to maintain efficient yard organization and flow of equipment for the day. Maintains access to dock doors both inside and outside the facility keeping them free of debris or snow. Other tasks as assigned by manager.

Qualifications

Possesses a sense of urgency, accountability, and be able to work with limited supervision. General understanding of computers and handheld RF equipment. He/she must be able to read, write, and understand English. Attention to detail and quality a must. Good communication, clear and concise, problem resolution, and people skills. Flexibility in working overtime when needed, and supplying coverage to other shifts. PC skills helpful. Ability to work in a fast-paced warehouse.

Education and/or Experience Required

High School Diploma or general education diploma (GED). Warehousing certifications a plus. 3-6 months of forklift driving experience in a warehouse using sit down forklifts and Electric Pallet Jacks. Experience in building pallets with stock and breaking down stock to fill independent orders. Experience in cross docking freight process.

Language Skills Sets

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, percentages and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to determine "root cause" of problem and determine corrective action.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have knowledge of Business Operating Systems, Internet software, Word Processing, and Spreadsheet software.

Physical Demands

Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to activate phone systems utilizing keyboards and buttons. Must be articulate and comfortable speaking in front of others. Regularly works in an indoor/office environment and required to sit and/or use repetitive hand motion. Frequently required to talk, hear, bend over, squat, reach, push, pull, stand and walk. Must be able to work in excess of continuous 8 hours when required. Must be able to work under stressful situations, have good cognitive skills, maintain work accuracy, and the ability to concentrate on more than one task at a time. Must have the ability to read and discern visual images on a variety of media with 20/20 corrected vision. Must be able to speak and communicate clearly over telephones. Must be in sound physical health as determined by a certified licensed physician with no evidence of the use of controlled substances.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment will range from quiet to moderately loud.
