Position Summary
Prairie State College seeks an experienced part-time hourly welding instructor to provide customized training to a variety of clients. Successful candidates will be experienced in SMAW and GMAW or GTAW welding applications. Must be able to work independently, show good judgment, and have the desire to engage a diverse student population in various levels of welding principles and techniques. Successful candidates will have a flexible schedule for teaching assignments. Instruction topics include but are not limited to:
  • Principles of Flat Welding
  • Horizontal Welding and Brazing
  • Mental Inert and Vertical Welding
  • Tungsten Inert and Overhead Welding
  • AWS Structural Certification
  • AWS Sense Level 1 experience
  • GMAW and GTAW

Reporting Relationship
Direct reporting relationship to the Manager, Workforce and Community Partnerships - Workforce Trades. Supports the Dean, Workforce Development and Community Education, and team with carrying out the mission of the college and department.
Essential Responsibilities
  1. Plan for instructional activities supporting curriculum.
  2. Organize concepts to be taught in a logical and understandable manner covering all objectives outlined in the training program.
  3. Use appropriate assessment tools to ensure learning.
  4. Submit and maintain accurate records of attendance and grades.
  5. Effective communication with students to help them achieve their educational goals.

6. Opening and closing the welding lab in a safe and secure manner.
7. Conducting classes with little or no direct supervision.
8. Providing student updates when requested
Other Duties and Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Three years' welding experience in manufacturing or related industry
  2. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  3. Instructional/Training experience.
  4. Must be proficient in welding. Submission of proof of welding proficiency and/or a competency test will be administered as part of the interview process.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Associates degree in welding technology or associated field
  2. Experience teaching, especially at the community college level.
  3. Experience working with a culturally and intellectually diverse group.
  4. Ability to create diverse teaching methods.
