Description
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Purpose: Set-up and operate CNC production machines to machine metallic work-pieces.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Ensure a safe work environment for self and others. Follows all safety rules and regulations. Demonstrate commitment to safety program.
  • Review and follow work instruction, management system procedures and standard operating documents.
  • Run CNC, manual machines, or hand held tools. Performs complete change overs, adjust work coordinates and zero sets. Performs standard work holding troubleshooting procedures.
  • Run multiple machines simultaneously. Inspect parts and be able to recognize defects and non-conformities. Notify supervisor/lead of non-conformance parts immediately.
  • Adjust machine settings/off-sets, and adjustments for tool wear.
  • Consistently and accurately complete all related paperwork/documentation. For example, inspection reports, part counts, scrap tags, material tags, etc.
  • Monitor fluids in machine and coolant flow in machine.
  • Utilizes the 5-S principles (sort, set in order, shine, standardize, and sustain) to maintain an orderly, clean and safe work area.
  • Regularly meet or exceed efficiency requirements.
  • Produce parts that meet the Company's quality standards.
  • Actively participates in CIP events to improve the safety, quality, and efficiencies of our current processes and procedures.
  • Support and positively contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Work at a consistent and steady pace, be prepared to work each day, and report to assigned work center in a punctual manner.
  • Communicates with supervisor and co-workers in a professional manner.
  • Ensure work center is prepared for the next operator. This includes cleanliness, organization, supporting documentation.
  • Starts machine, verifies correct program for the work to be done.
  • Zero out axis and reset program.
  • Move axis as necessary using CNC Controls. Toggle between all machine modes, e.g. Manual, MDI, edit, jog modes.
  • Change inserts and tools. Trouble shoot and rectify tool wear issues.
  • Assists with machine operator and set-up training of co-workers as directed by supervisor/lead.
  • Perform setup of machine in time projected. Complete all setup and tear-down documentation.
  • Sets flow of coolant or cutting oil against tool and work-piece.
  • Work closely with quality personnel to troubleshoot and correct quality issues.
  • Assist with tool testing as needed.
  • Perform unsupported set-ups from scratch on CNC machines in assigned area. Performs standard troubleshooting procedures prior to seeking assistance.
  • Read, interpret and edit machine/parts programs as needed
  • Move controls to position tool and work-piece in relation to each other, and to set specified feeds, speeds and depth of cut
  • Adjust work piece holding as needed.
  • Work with Engineering to maintain accuracy of production books/work instructions.
  • Work with Machinist/Engineering to troubleshoot processes in order to make improvements.
  • Assist with the implementation of new processes as needed.
  • Promote a positive atmosphere. Actively support activities that promote the welfare and morale of TEAM employees.
  • Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.

Minimum Requirements:
Education & Experience:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years CNC Operator experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Basic Math skills, must have a working knowledge of decimals
  • Ability to read measuring instruments
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions
  • Must be detail oriented, with the ability to recognize defects and non-conformities
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Basic understanding of tooling required for setting up a machine
  • Working knowledge of the machine mechanics and/or programs
  • Regular attendance

Training:
  • OJT for Machining Setup

Physical Demands
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 20 lbs, occasionally lift and/or move up to 33 lbs., rarely lifting up to 65 lbs.
  • Ability to do repetitive movements (i.e. bending, twisting, walking)
  • Able to continuously operate at a minimum of 3 hours
• Ability to stand up to 100% of shift
