Job description

About Base

Base is America’s next-generation power company. We’re rebuilding the foundation of modern civilization–electricity–by deploying a vast network of distributed batteries that is transforming today’s fragile, centralized grid into a resilient and abundant system. We are engineers, operators, and creatives solving some of the most complex, interdisciplinary challenges of our time.

About the Role

Base is looking for a Deployment Engineer to support the complex work of deployment operations as we launch new utility partnerships. You'll define the operational parameters for how we deploy batteries with regulated utilities, stand up deployment operations by refining the pipeline that moves partner deals from signed to Permission to Operate (PTO), and serve as the day-to-day technical point of contact for utility partners as we bring new markets online.

What You'll Do
  • Build the internal systems and operational procedures to deploy thousands of batteries and scale our partnerships
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for utility partners on all thing’s deployment operations, including interconnection agreements, inspection coordination, and the technical requirements that affect utility integration, installation timelines, safety, and member outcomes
  • Build systems to collect the data that drives continuous process and system improvements
  • Troubleshoot and triage operational problems to keep resolution swift and disruption minimal
  • Develop and implement the operational foundations, pipeline automations, and systems that let new partnerships scale
  • Work across Base pipeline, marketing, and business operations teams to strengthen partnership operations
  • Own daily pipeline health across partner queues: catch aging deals, route out-of-pipeline issues, make config changes, and clean up CRM deal records to keep deployment operations moving
  • Coordinate handoffs between the field team and partners to keep install quotas on track, keep install and service hygiene high, and prevent last-minute scheduling changes that burden partners
  • Run deployment feasibility studies to understand the operational challenges of deploying batteries in new utility regions
  • Collaborate with utility teams to define the operational requirements that work for both parties and keep Base deployment operations consistent
What You'll Bring
  • 3+ years in operations, program management, or partnerships roles that involved multi-disciplinary collaboration
  • Experience in energy, utilities, construction, or field services operations (preferred)
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical and/or electromechanical systems
  • A track record of building relationships with external partners and clearing process bottlenecks
  • Experience developing processes and procedures for field work or manufacturing
  • Experience with utility companies, interconnection agreements, or regulated or deregulated energy markets (a plus)
  • Comfort owning a CRM as the system of record — clean data in, clean data out
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Organized and detail-oriented, able to track dozens of deals and approvals in flight without dropping any
  • A degree in mechanical, manufacturing, electrical, or industrial engineering, or equivalent experience
About the Team

The Deployment Operations team builds the systems and processes that turn new utility partnerships into batteries deployed in the field. We work at the intersection of utility partners, field operations, and Base’s internal teams to take partnerships from signed agreement through Permission to Operate and build the operational foundation required to scale.

As Base enters new markets and launches new utility partnerships, the team tackles complex, first-of-their-kind deployment challenges, defines how we operate with each partner, and turns what we learn into repeatable systems. We move quickly, stay close to the details, and work cross-functionally to keep deployments moving while building for long-term scale.

Please note: Base is a startup, which means priorities shift and evolve quickly. Your role may expand or change based on the needs of the business at any given time, so the responsibilities listed may not be exhaustive.

Our Values
  • First Principles Thinking: Question assumptions. Principles > rules.
  • Operate at Base Pace: Focus on what matters, act quickly, and learn by doing.
  • Give & Get Feedback: Be direct, be humble, and maintain a growth mindset.
  • Everyone’s an Owner: Follow through on commitments and own results.
  • Strong Opinions, Loosely Held: Drive clarity and make calls with imperfect information.
  • Committed to the Mission: Rebuilding the grid is a big challenge. We work hard because we care deeply about the impact we’re creating. We work in-person. It’s not a 9-to-5. We are all-in.
  • Fun & Optimism Coexist with Grit: Collaboration and celebration coincide with the intensity of building real things.
Do the best work of your life at Base.
