Day Shift Automation Engineers on a contract basis are professionals responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining automated systems in manufacturing or industrial settings during daytime hours. Their role typically involves troubleshooting equipment, optimizing processes, and ensuring smooth operation of automated machinery. As contractors, they are usually hired for a specific project or time frame, providing flexibility to employers and allowing engineers to work on a variety of assignments. These engineers often collaborate with other technical staff to improve efficiency and productivity while adhering to safety and quality standards.

What are some common challenges faced by day shift automation engineers working on contract, and how can they effectively address them?

Day Shift Automation Engineers on contract often face challenges such as quickly adapting to new automation systems, understanding existing processes, and integrating with established teams in a short timeframe. To be effective, it's important to proactively communicate with team members, thoroughly review system documentation, and seek clarifications early on. Contract engineers should also stay flexible and open to learning, as requirements and priorities may shift rapidly. Building strong working relationships with on-site staff can help smooth the transition and contribute to project success.

Are you energized by solving complex technical challenges and improving highly automated systems? Join a team that keeps critical pharmacy operations running while driving innovation, reliability, and continuous improvement. As a Pharmacy Automation Engineer Lead Analyst, you will play a key role in maintaining and advancing sophisticated pharmaceutical filling and packaging technologies that help deliver medications accurately and efficiently. This is an opportunity to combine hands-on technical expertise with strategic thinking while mentoring others and influencing the future of pharmacy automation.
Responsibilities
  • Maximize the performance, reliability, and uptime of highly automated pharmacy production equipment through preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance activities.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, PLC, and computer-controlled systems to quickly resolve issues and minimize operational disruption.
  • Identify root causes of recurring equipment failures and implement sustainable solutions that improve system reliability and operational efficiency.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance equipment performance, increase Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), and optimize production capabilities.
  • Support installation, validation, expansion, and upgrade projects for automation equipment and related systems.
  • Execute engineering change controls and equipment modifications that improve safety, quality, reliability, and productivity.
  • Monitor automated systems using diagnostics, inspections, and performance reporting tools to proactively identify and address equipment risks.
  • Utilize computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS/Maximo) to document work, track equipment history, manage maintenance activities, and support data-driven decision making.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, vendors, and engineering partners to improve automation processes and implement technical solutions.
  • Train, mentor, and support the development of team members by sharing technical expertise and best practices.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and provide responsive support for operational needs.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of experience maintaining, troubleshooting, or supporting automated industrial equipment, manufacturing systems, or electromechanical systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment, field devices, I/O systems, mechanical systems, and pneumatic systems.
  • Working knowledge of electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and industrial troubleshooting techniques.
  • Experience performing preventive, predictive, corrective, and emergency maintenance activities.
  • Experience using CMMS platforms such as Maximo to document and manage maintenance activities.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex equipment issues in a high-volume production environment.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to occasionally work outside normal shift hours, including weekends, to support operational needs.
  • Ability to participate in an on-call support rotation.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Industrial Maintenance, Engineering Technology, Automation, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
  • Experience supporting pharmaceutical, healthcare, packaging, distribution, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with automated filling, packaging, conveyor, robotics, or material handling systems.
  • Experience implementing equipment upgrades, engineering changes, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience mentoring technicians, engineers, or other technical team members.
