Job Description
DESCRIPTION OF ROLE:
The focus of the Adjunct Clinical Instructor (ACI) role is clinical instruction. In this role, ACIs participate in planning, implementing, and evaluating clinical learning experiences. ACIs also are accountable for the supervision, instruction, and evaluation of the performance of students in clinical learning experiences. Selected functions are outlined below.
RESONSIBLE TO: Course Coordinator, Program/Specialty Track Coordinator, Associate Dean and/or Department Chair.
FUNCTIONS:
1. Establishes a UAB email account and maintains timely and effective communication with staff of clinical sites, students and other course faculty
2. Completes all ACI/ADI orientation/training sessions related to clinical instruction, course, and clinical agency.
3. Completes various training sessions as assigned and adheres to university policies and procedures to include the Enterprise Code of Conduct.
4. Demonstrates thorough knowledge in clinical specialty area and incorporates into teaching-learning activities.
5. Interacts appropriately and effectively with students.
6. Collaborates with staff of community agencies to provide clinical learning experiences for students.
7. Provides clinical instruction that integrates critical thinking skills from various clinical skills, pharmacology, associated didactic course content, and other essential professional skills such as time management and priority setting.
8. Completes midterm and final evaluation conferences with students and submits such written evaluations to the Course Coordinator no later than the last day of the semester.
9. Maintains anecdotal notes and provides ongoing feedback to students regarding their clinical performance.
10. Evaluates weekly written assignments in a timely manner.
11. Communicates with Course Coordinator regarding any concerns about student performance.
12. Seeks guidance from Course Coordinator as needed in carrying out the adjunct clinical instructor role.
13. Completes adjunct faculty satisfaction survey and written evaluation of clinical site and submit to the Course Coordinator by the last day of the semester.
14. Completes the performance evaluation process with the Course Coordinator.
15. Participates in other related activities as needed (.e.g. intensives).
The position description is designed to communicate duties and responsibilities of the position as well as the knowledge, skills, and ability necessary to qualify for the position. The purposes and use of the position descriptions are for recruitment and orientation, as well as to communicate the general role of faculty in one document. The users will be approval and accrediting bodies, potential faculty, and current faculty.
Required Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Current licensure for professional practice in Alabama or Multistate RN licensure as appropriate.
2. A minimum of a Master's degree in nursing or related field.
3. Minimum of one-year nursing clinical experience relevant to clinical teaching area.
