Position Summary
This position supervises program development and student recruitment, facilitates student comprehension and application of knowledge, skills, and attitudes in a Postsecondary EMT instructional program.
The EMT Instructor/Director will adhere to the guidelines as specified by the Lawson State Community College Policy and Procedures Manual, the President of the college, the Vice President of Instruction, and the EMS Accreditation Agencies.
Salary Schedule Placement: Appropriate placement on Salary Schedule D1 ($42,108-$94,363) based on education and experience. Summer appointments are based on enrollment- Salary Schedule D1 ($13,001- $29,184) based on education and experience. Annual Potential Salary including Summer Appointment ($55,109- $123,547) .
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Serves in a supervisory capacity by managing administrative details of the program and courses incompliance with Alabama Department of Public Health, Office of Emergency Medical Services Division, CoAEMSP Accreditation Agency and the Alabama Community College System.
  2. Teach 30-35 contact hours or 15-16 credit hours per semester and/or the equivalent in non-credit hours or a combination of the credit and non-credit course offerings.
  3. Instructor must be available to teach in day, night, weekend classes, and training opportunities if necessary.
  4. Regular and consistent attendance at work and record/maintain student attendance records.
  5. Prepare and maintain current course syllabus according to the College's guidelines
  6. Develop and implement a program of instruction that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students and is consistent with local and state plan of study established curriculum.
  7. Plan and employ a variety of appropriate instructional/learning strategies and activities which are compatible with the physical facility but serve the needs and capabilities of the students.
  8. Plan and implement lessons based on curriculum objectives and the needs and abilities of students; plan and teach classes in EMT, simulated laboratory and clinical in accordance with approved course outlines and program of study; plan clinical rotation schedules.
  9. If teaching online, maintain an active presence in the online environment, participate in discussion boards and follow all prescribed eCollege guidelines and practices as outline within your training and housed in the eCollege Faculty Manual.
  10. Actively participates in and works with other school personnel in the selections of books, equipment and other instructional materials in order to provide students with optimal learning opportunities.
  11. Achieve and maintain program accreditation/certification and teaching credentials and technical certifications.
  12. Knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials and equipment of instructional specialty.
  13. Reviews curriculum and makes routine adjustments in both ground and online courses.
  14. Skilled and effective in oral and written communication.
  15. Works to diffuse conflict and mediate through problems with students and colleagues.
  16. Maintain lab equipment and supplies.
  17. Prepare program course offerings for schedule for each semester and term.
  18. Develop and evaluate Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) for instructional specialty.
  19. Collaborate with other unit programs to develop and implement divisional goals.
  20. Knowledge of institution's program of studies related to mission, goals and organization.
  21. Recruit students into program and advise them through completion.
  22. Serve on divisional, institutional, and state-wide committees as appointed.
  23. Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.
  24. Work with college ADA coordinator to provide appropriate accommodations for identified students
  25. Attends assigned divisional, department, and college meetings.
  26. Reviews and modifies curriculum (for both ground and distance education courses).
  27. Develops and implements a program of instruction that meets with shared department goals and objectives outline for the course.
  28. Uses Blackboard regularly to augment instruction to include the uploading of the syllabus, homework assignments, supplemental videos, lecture presentations, handouts, assignments, materials and recorded lectures (where applicable).
  29. Participates on committees and engages in college-wide activities to promote the missions of the institution.
  30. Agrees to participate in required college events, such as, graduation, honors day programs, and other assigned events.
  31. Maintains a neat, appropriate and professional appearance at all times.
  32. Adheres to all school and/or department policies and responds to all administrative request in a timely professional manner.
  33. Assists every student in the development of his/her academic abilities to his/her greatest capacity.

Qualifications
REQUIRED EDUCATION, STANDARDS, AND TRAINING:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent from a regionally accredited institution
  • Three years of EMS experience
  • Some teaching experience is preferred but not required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Teaching experience in a community college setting

REQUIRED LICENSE, CERTIFICATION, OR SPECIAL CREDENTIALS:
  • Certification in paramedics and licensed in the State of Alabama
  • Current certification in CPR/First Aid Administration

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Exceptional verbal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated computer literacy and well versed in instructional technology platforms

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:
  1. Be able to conduct board instruction and demonstration of relevant concepts (up to 50 minutes at a time)
  2. Be able to circulate the room during instruction and/or testing conditions
  3. Be computer literate, be well versed in instructional technology and use of medical equipment
  4. Be able to move technological carts and equipment (at least 20 to 25 pounds)
