Job Summary:

The Skilled Trades Department at Red Rocks Community College seeks a part-time NCCER Construction (CON) / Core Instructor to deliver high-quality instruction in NCCER Core: Introduction to Basic Construction Skills and related courses. The instructor provides classroom, lab, shop, and hands-on instruction preparing students for entry-level employment, apprenticeships, and continued education in the construction and skilled trades.


Using NCCER curriculum and industry best practices, the instructor teaches foundational topics including safety, tools, construction math, drawings, material handling, communication, employability skills, and basic construction practices. Responsibilities include assessing student learning through exams and hands-on competency demonstrations while maintaining a safe, inclusive learning environment.
The instructor collaborates with program leadership to ensure alignment with NCCER standards, Colorado CTE requirements, and institutional policies. Duties also include maintaining accurate records, using the College’s LMS and instructional technology, supporting NCCER documentation, and participating in meetings and professional development. Instruction may occur in day, evening, weekend, hybrid, online, lab, shop, or off-site formats based on program needs.


This part-time role is governed by Colorado Community College System and Red Rocks Community College policies and may include multiple vacancies. Finalists must have Colorado as their primary work location, including online instruction. This posting will be used to fill multiple vacancies.


Compensation is based on credit hour/contact hour ratios and ranges from $1,660.54 to $1,826.60 per credit hour.

Required Qualifications


• Qualifies for, or holds, a Colorado postsecondary Career and Technical Education credential, including required non-teaching occupational hours as defined by Colorado Community College System and Colorado CTE requirements.
• Meets, or is able to meet, NCCER Certified Instructor eligibility requirements for NCCER Core and/or related CON curriculum modules assigned to teach.
• NCCER Instructor Certification, or ability to complete required NCCER instructor training upon hire.
• Documented construction, maintenance, skilled trades, or related industry experience appropriate for the NCCER Core and CON modules assigned to teach.
Physical & Cognitive Demands:

The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position:
• Regularly works in classroom, laboratory, shop, and hands-on training environments while teaching NCCER Core and related CON courses.
• Frequently stands, walks, bends, kneels, reaches, grips, lifts, carries, climbs, and moves throughout instructional spaces to demonstrate construction safety, hand tool use, power tool use, material handling, construction drawings, layout, measurement, and other basic construction skills.
• Frequently uses or demonstrates the use of hand tools, power tools, measuring tools, ladders, construction materials, personal protective equipment, and related instructional equipment.
• Occasionally moves, positions, and transports tools, equipment, supplies, construction materials, and instructional materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Regularly uses required personal protective equipment and works near tools, equipment, dust, noise, sharp edges, moving materials, and other controlled lab or shop conditions.
• Regularly uses a computer, learning management system, email, instructional technology, and standard office equipment to support course instruction, communication, grading, and NCCER-related documentation.
• Cognitive demands include observing, comparing, measuring, calculating, troubleshooting, analyzing, coordinating, demonstrating, communicating, instructing, evaluating student performance, and applying sound judgment in classroom, lab, shop, and hands-on learning settings.
• People in this position regularly communicate with students, faculty, staff, and program leadership. Must be able to exchange accurate technical, safety, and instructional information in these situations.

Preferred Qualifications:

• NCCER Instructor Certification
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
• Associate degree or higher in Construction Technology, Construction Management, Skilled Trades, CTE, or related field
• Experience teaching NCCER Core or related curriculum, including competency-based instruction and performance evaluations
• Experience delivering hands-on construction/skilled trades instruction in classroom, lab, shop, or field settings with strong safety practices
• Significant industry experience in construction or skilled trades (e.g., carpentry, electrical, HVAC, welding, maintenance)
• Experience training, mentoring, supervising apprentices, or leading technical instruction in workforce or apprenticeship settings
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with ability to support diverse learner populations, including multilingual, first-generation, veteran, and other student populations.

This is a part-time, FLSA-exempt position, and may work up to 28 hours per week, depending on budget and need. This position has been exempted from the State Classified System.
