Job description

Our Opportunity

GPJ is looking for a Graphic Production Artist to join our growing team in Smyrna, TN! This role will work out of our office location 5 days per week. 

As a Production Artist, your main job is to create and prepare graphic files for printing or digital display. This involves using graphic design software to make sure the artwork looks good in both print and online formats. You take 2D designs and instructions from various sources and turn them into usable files. Sometimes, you have to tweak existing artwork to meet quality standards, like adjusting sizes or resolutions. 

You're also responsible for making sure the files get to the right place for production or display. You help out with templates and guidelines for clients' design teams and review proofs to make sure everything looks good. If there are large format graphics involved, you use engineering drawings to figure out sizes and installation details. 

Communication is key in your role, so you stay in touch with everyone involved in the project to make sure we're all on the same page. You also keep track of project progress and handle administrative tasks like time tracking and training.

What You'll Do

  • Use graphic design software to generate and output graphic art files to be utilized in print production or other mediums such as small format or online publication 
  • Interpret, translate, and compose graphic intent from 2D design and other relevant shareholders into working files as required
  • Manipulate existing digital artwork to meet the minimum requirements or intended quality expectations.  This may include size corrections, resolution fixes, bleed adjustments,  making sure colors are consistent, etc
  • Assure file delivery to intended print production or display location/team
  • Assist with templates, guidelines or other relevant information that may be required by a client's internal design team or to assist 2D creative teams
  • Approve graphic proofs including those internal to GPJ or from outside stakeholders when necessary
  • Interpret engineered drawings/CAD to extrapolate sizing and installation intent for large format graphics
  • Communicate effectively and proactively with all relevant stakeholders to assure all information is communicated or acquired in a timely manner
  • Update all necessary tracking documentation to assure collaborators are informed and consistently up to date on a project's status
  • Other responsibilities will include job time tracking, training, continual learning/research for skill improvement, and additional tasks as directed

What You'll Need

  • High competency in graphic design software, including, but not limited to, Adobe Creative Suite
  • Color theory and management experience. General competence in GSuite, particularly Google Sheets
  • Competency in utilizing email software such as Gmail
  • General knowledge of the exhibit or sign making industry
  • Exceptional organizational skills
