Day Competitive Programming information

What is a day competitive programmer?

A Day Competitive Programmer is someone who regularly participates in competitive programming contests, often held online during the day. These programmers solve algorithmic and coding problems under timed conditions, honing their problem-solving and coding skills. They may compete individually or as part of a team, and often use languages like C++, Java, or Python. Competitive programming is popular among students, professionals, and coding enthusiasts who want to improve their logical thinking and prepare for technical job interviews.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a competitive programmer?

To thrive as a Competitive Programmer, you need strong problem-solving abilities, proficiency in algorithms and data structures, and often a background in computer science or related education. Familiarity with coding platforms like Codeforces, LeetCode, and HackerRank, as well as programming languages such as C++, Java, or Python, is essential. Quick thinking, perseverance, and attention to detail are crucial soft skills that help in tackling complex challenges under time constraints. These skills are vital for achieving top performance in competitions and for developing coding expertise applicable to software development roles.

What are the main challenges faced by professionals in a day-to-day competitive programming role?

Professionals in daily competitive programming roles often face tight deadlines to solve complex algorithmic problems, which requires both deep technical knowledge and strong time management skills. Staying current with evolving programming languages, data structures, and algorithms is essential, as is the ability to quickly adapt to different problem types. Collaboration with peers or participating in team-based contests can also be challenging, as it demands clear communication and the ability to integrate diverse problem-solving approaches. Regular practice, continuous learning, and participation in code reviews are key strategies to overcome these challenges and excel in this fast-paced environment.

What is the difference between Day Competitive Programming vs Software Developer?

AspectDay Competitive ProgrammingSoftware Developer

Work EnvironmentCompetitive coding contests, online platformsOffice or remote software development teams
Industry UsageUsed for skill enhancement and coding competitionsUsed for building software products and applications
Common Search/Comparison IntentUnderstanding competitive programming vs software developmentCareer differences between competitive programming and software development

Day Competitive Programming focuses on solving algorithmic problems in timed contests, often self-directed or online. Software Developers work on designing, coding, and maintaining software applications within a team environment. While both require strong programming skills, competitive programming emphasizes problem-solving speed and algorithmic thinking, whereas software development centers on building functional software solutions for real-world use.

Job description

Advance CNC Machining – Grove City, Ohio
Salary: Up to $90,000 DOE

Do you take pride in knowing your measurements are right?

Advance CNC Machining is looking for an experienced CMM Programmer who understands that quality starts with accurate, thoughtful measurement.

We're looking for someone who is conscientious, independent, highly detail-oriented, and knowledgeable—someone who doesn't simply program a machine and accept the results but understands what the results mean and takes ownership of getting it right.

At Advance CNC Machining, we specialize in producing high-precision machined parts for customers across the country, including equipment manufacturers and customers in the food, pharmaceutical, aerospace, and defense industries. We believe in getting the right people in the right seats so we can fulfill our mission to create more opportunities for our families and our neighbors.

What You'll Do

As our CMM Programmer, you'll take ownership of the quality of your work and be trusted to get the details right.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and optimize highquality CMM programs using ZEISS Calypso software (for a ZEISS Contura CMM 10/12/6 RDS with Vast XXT and a ZEISS Contura CMM 7/10/6 with Vast XT Gold)
  • Proof CMM programs and make necessary adjustments
  • Inspection planning, including ballooning drawings
  • Interpret and analyze CMM reports, measurement results, and part specifications
  • Support troubleshooting and validation activities to achieve FA qualifications quickly and efficiently
  • Collaborate with Quality and Production teams to make and measure parts correctly the first time
  • Provide insights and recommendations to improve accuracy, repeatability, and efficiency

Compensation & Benefits

  • Up to $90,000 salary, depending on experience
  • 401(k) with a 100% employer match up to $5,200 per year
  • 80 hours of PTO in your first year, increasing annually up to 200 hours
  • 6 paid holidays
  • Medical, dental, vision, life, accident, and disability insurance
  • Bonus opportunities

What You Bring

The right CMM Programmer will understand CMM programming, notice things others might miss, and stand behind your work.

The skills needed:

  • 3+ years of handson Calypso programming experience(required)
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and GD&T
  • Thorough understanding of dimensional metrology principles and applications
  • Competitive programming times
  • Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills
  • CMM inspection experience with curve forms, maximum material condition, and advanced GD&T (preferred, not required)
  • Familiarity with machining, especially 4- and 5-axis milling (preferred, not required)

Why Advance CNC?

We’re a refreshingly different, growing company of 60+ team members where ordinary people do extraordinary things.

  • Be part of a fast-growing $20+ million-dollar company with an exciting future.
  • Gain opportunities for professional development and career advancement.
  • Join a team that values hard work, accountability, collaboration, and commitment.
