Overview: Responsibilities related to the purposes of in-school suspension, including assisting students with classwork, supervision of students who have been disciplined, and to serve as a deterrent to future unacceptable behavior by the student.
Job Summary: 7.5 hours per day; 5 days/week, 192 days/year
Essential Job Functions:
  • Ensure safety of students
  • Maintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., student records, free/reduced lunch forms, student test scores
  • Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents
  • Attend meetings and in-services as required
  • Assist with restroom breaks/lunch/recess
  • Promote good social relationships between students
  • Supervise general housekeeping duties
  • Handle correspondence with Principal, Assistant Principal, Security and Teachers
  • Duplicate materials for class if necessary
  • Ensure all records and paperwork are accurate and updated
  • Monitor and supervise students during arrival and dismissal of school
  • Instruct students on rules and consequences of ALC
  • Distribute assigned materials
  • Maintain highly rigid structured/controlled classroom environment reflecting seriousness of student's unacceptable behavior
  • Communicate with classroom teachers on lesson assignments
  • Monitor students, as needed, in ALC
  • Help de-escalate students in need of a time-out or students that are sent to the principal's office in elementary school

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma
  • Ability to work effectively with others
  • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
  • Effective, active listening skills
  • Organizational and problem solving skills

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or valid teaching license or substitute teacher license
