What is a Dataform job?

A Dataform job typically involves managing and transforming data within the Dataform platform, which is used for data workflow automation and version control in analytics engineering. Professionals in this role write SQL-based transformations, schedule data pipeline executions, and maintain data quality checks. They often work closely with data engineers and analysts to ensure reliable and scalable data workflows.

Is Dataform an ETL tool?

Dataform is a data modeling and transformation tool that helps automate and manage data workflows within data warehouses. It is often used for building ELT (Extract, Load, Transform) pipelines, making it suitable for data transformation tasks in an ETL-like process. Dataform integrates with cloud data platforms and supports SQL-based workflows.

How does dataform work?

A Dataform professional manages data workflows by designing, developing, and maintaining data pipelines that automate data transformation and integration processes. They typically use tools like SQL, scripting languages, and data orchestration platforms to ensure data quality and consistency for analytics and reporting. Strong knowledge of databases, data modeling, and version control is essential for this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Dataform position, and why are they important?

To excel as a Dataform professional, you need expertise in data modeling, SQL, ELT pipelines, and strong analytical reasoning, typically supported by a degree in computer science, data engineering, or a similar field. Familiarity with Dataform itself, cloud data warehouses (like BigQuery or Snowflake), and version control tools such as Git is highly beneficial. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and clear communication skills help individuals stand out in this role. These competencies are crucial for efficiently building reliable, scalable data workflows and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

How much does Dataform cost?

Dataform offers a free tier with basic features suitable for small projects and individual users. Paid plans with additional features and support start at a monthly fee, typically around $50 to $100, depending on the scale and requirements of the organization.

What is the highest paying job in data?

In the data field, senior roles such as Data Engineering Managers, Data Architects, and Chief Data Officers tend to have the highest salaries, often exceeding six figures annually. These positions require advanced skills in data architecture, cloud platforms, and leadership, and they typically involve overseeing large data teams and strategic data initiatives.

What does a typical day look like for someone working in a Dataform role?

A typical day for a Dataform professional involves designing and maintaining data transformation pipelines, collaborating with data analysts and engineers to understand business requirements, and troubleshooting data issues as they arise. You might also spend time optimizing SQL queries, managing data warehouse schemas, and ensuring that data models are well-documented and reliable. Team meetings and code reviews are common, supporting a collaborative environment where knowledge sharing is encouraged. This role is a great fit for those who enjoy solving complex data challenges and contributing to robust, scalable data infrastructure.

Job description

Job Title: Senior Software & Automation Engineer

We are seeking a Senior Software & Automation Engineer to join our small technology team and work hands-on across our in-house ERP, data pipelines, automation, and AI tooling. This is a senior individual-contributor role, not a management role: you will own work end to end alongside our existing engineer and split a broad, real-world workload in a bilingual (Korean–English) corporate environment. Full-stack engineering is the core of the job; because our team is small, you should be comfortable wearing multiple hats and using AI to multiply what you deliver.

Who Thrives in This Role:
You enjoy variety and autonomy over deep specialization. In a given week, you might build a full-stack feature, automate a business workflow, wire up an AI agent, fix an ERP data issue, and talk directly to the people who use what you build. You see leveraging AI to multiply your own output as the fun part, not a distraction. This role is probably not for you if you want to focus on a single stack or a narrow specialty with a large team and well-defined tickets handed to you.

Responsibility Areas:

  • Design, build, and maintain services and APIs for our in-house ERP and internal systems (TypeScript/Node.js and Python backend, React front-end).
  • Build and improve data pipelines and reporting (BigQuery, Dataform, Data Studio) that business teams rely on for decisions.
  • Investigate and resolve production issues across the ERP, databases, and integrations; improve reliability, performance, and data integrity.
  • Build internal automation and tools (including Google Apps Script) to streamline Sales, SCM, Accounting, and Operations workflows.
  • Build AI-enabled automation, including AI agents and coding-assistant harnesses, and contribute to the company's broader AI initiatives.
  • Work directly with business users to turn requirements into working software, communicating in both Korean and English.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Strong backend skills (TypeScript/Node.js and Python, or a comparable stack), including API design and data modeling.
  • Comfortable across the full stack, including modern front-end (React/TypeScript).
  • Solid SQL and relational database experience (MySQL, PostgreSQL).
  • Hands-on experience using AI assistants and coding CLIs (e.g., Claude Code) in daily development and genuine interest in building AI agents and automation.
  • Ability to work independently, own work end to end, and take on a broad range of technical tasks in a small team.
  • Cloud experience (GCP preferred; AWS/Azure acceptable).
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Korean (verbal and written).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with ERP or other core business systems, including modernization or migration work.
  • Software design experience with patterns such as Domain-Driven Design (DDD), CQRS, and incremental modernization.
  • Familiarity with modern data stacks (BigQuery, Dataform, Data Studio).
  • Experience with Google Apps Script or workflow automation.
  • Industry experience in steel, manufacturing, distribution, logistics, or supply chain.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., GCP/AWS).

Work Hours: Full-Time (Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM)

We believe great work deserves great support. Here's what we offer:

  • Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance
  • Paid Vacation, Sick Days, and Holidays
  • Performance Bonuses
  • Educational Training Reimbursements
  • Employee Referral Incentives
  • Daily Lunch Fringe Allowance
  • Team Lunches & Dinners
  • Fitness Membership Reimbursements
  • Employee Birthday Gifts
  • Recognition & Service Year Awards
