What is a Dataform?

A Dataform job typically involves managing and transforming data within the Dataform platform, which is used for data workflow automation and version control in analytics engineering. Professionals in this role write SQL-based transformations, schedule data pipeline executions, and maintain data quality checks. They often work closely with data engineers and analysts to ensure reliable and scalable data workflows.

What does a Dataform do?

A typical day for a Dataform professional involves designing and maintaining data transformation pipelines, collaborating with data analysts and engineers to understand business requirements, and troubleshooting data issues as they arise. You might also spend time optimizing SQL queries, managing data warehouse schemas, and ensuring that data models are well-documented and reliable. Team meetings and code reviews are common, supporting a collaborative environment where knowledge sharing is encouraged. This role is a great fit for those who enjoy solving complex data challenges and contributing to robust, scalable data infrastructure.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Dataform position, and why are they important?

To excel as a Dataform professional, you need expertise in data modeling, SQL, ELT pipelines, and strong analytical reasoning, typically supported by a degree in computer science, data engineering, or a similar field. Familiarity with Dataform itself, cloud data warehouses (like BigQuery or Snowflake), and version control tools such as Git is highly beneficial. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and clear communication skills help individuals stand out in this role. These competencies are crucial for efficiently building reliable, scalable data workflows and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Job description

Job Title: Software & Automation Engineer

We are seeking a mid-level Software & Automation Engineer to join our small technology team and work hands-on across our in-house ERP, data pipelines, automation, and AI tooling. This is an individual-contributor role, not a management role: you will own work end to end alongside our existing engineer and split a broad, real-world workload in a bilingual (Korean–English) corporate environment. Full-stack engineering is the core of the job; because our team is small, you should be comfortable wearing multiple hats and using AI to multiply what you deliver.

Who Thrives in This Role:
You enjoy variety and autonomy over deep specialization. In a given week, you might build a full-stack feature, automate a business workflow, wire up an AI agent, fix an ERP data issue, help a colleague get unblocked on their laptop, and talk directly to the people who use what you build. You see leveraging AI to multiply your own output as the fun part, not a distraction. When something breaks or stalls, you stay with it until it is closed — and you surface where it stands before anyone has to ask. This role is probably not for you if you want to focus on a single stack or a narrow specialty with a large team and well-defined tickets handed to you.

Responsibility Areas:

  • Design, build, and maintain services and APIs for our in-house ERP and internal systems (TypeScript/Node.js and Python backend, React front-end).
  • Build and improve data pipelines and reporting (BigQuery, Dataform, Data Studio) that business teams rely on for decisions.
  • Investigate and resolve production issues across the ERP, databases, and integrations; improve reliability, performance, and data integrity.
  • Build internal automation and tools (including Google Apps Script) to streamline Sales, SCM, Accounting, and Operations workflows.
  • Build AI-enabled automation, including AI agents and coding-assistant harnesses, and contribute to the company's broader AI initiatives.
  • Work directly with business users to turn requirements into working software, communicating in both Korean and English.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 4 to 5 years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Solid backend skills (TypeScript/Node.js and Python, or a comparable stack), including API design and data modeling.
  • Comfortable across the full stack, including modern front-end (React/TypeScript; Next.js a plus).
  • Solid SQL and relational database experience (MySQL, PostgreSQL).
  • Hands-on experience using AI coding assistants in daily development (e.g., Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor), and genuine interest in building AI agents and automation.
  • Ability to work independently, own work end to end, and take on a broad range of technical tasks (backend, automation, AI tooling, data, and support) in a small team.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with non-technical audiences — translating an unclear business ask into a defined scope, explaining technical trade-offs without jargon, and keeping people informed through delivery.
  • Cloud experience (GCP preferred; AWS/Azure acceptable).
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Korean (verbal and written) — you will move between both languages in the same day, and can carry the same technical explanation into either one without losing precision.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Comfort extending systems you did not build, not only greenfield projects.
  • Experience with ERP or other core business systems, including modernization or migration work.
  • Familiarity with modern data stacks (BigQuery, Dataform, Data Studio).
  • Experience with Google Apps Script or workflow automation.
  • Industry experience in steel, manufacturing, distribution, logistics, or supply chain.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., GCP/AWS).

Work Hours: Full-Time (Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM)

Benefits: At USP, we believe great work deserves great support. Our benefits are designed to promote your health, growth, and well-being:

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid vacation, sick leave, and company holidays
  • Performance-based bonus opportunities
  • Employee recognition and years-of-service awards
  • Education and professional development reimbursement
  • Daily meal allowance
  • Company-sponsored team lunches and dinners
  • Fitness membership reimbursement
  • Company-sponsored team-building and recreational activities
  • Employee birthday gifts
