Job description

Job Summary:
HDR is a company that values employee engagement and inclusion, creating a welcoming environment for all. They are seeking a VCF Platform Engineer Lead to provide technical leadership for the private cloud platform, overseeing operational strategy, engineering standards, and service direction.
Responsibilities:
• Provide technical leadership for the VCF private cloud platform, including operational strategy, engineering standards, and service direction.
• Own the technical vision for private cloud hosting services built on VCF, including scalability, resiliency, automation, and supportability.
• Lead design and adoption of advanced VCF platform capabilities, ecosystem tooling, and integrated private cloud services.
• Establish engineering patterns for platform lifecycle management, self-service enablement, standard hosting offerings, and policy-driven automation.
• Oversee complex upgrades, platform transformations, and high-severity incident response as senior technical lead.
• Define and mature automation strategy across provisioning, compliance, patching, lifecycle, observability, and recovery operations.
• Drive platform integration with security, monitoring, backup, disaster recovery, CMDB, ITSM, and other enterprise service components.
• Partner with management and architecture leaders on roadmap planning, investment priorities, technical risk reduction, and service maturity.
• Set standards for operational excellence, reliability, support readiness, and engineering quality across the platform team.
• Coach senior engineers, lead technical decision-making, and serve as the escalation point for the most complex platform issues.
• Influence hosting service design for internal consumers, including service tiers, automation standards, availability targets, and lifecycle policies.
• Represent the platform domain in cross-functional initiatives involving datacenter modernization, hybrid cloud, platform engineering, and infrastructure transformation.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Minimum 10 years of experience in infrastructure, virtualization, platform engineering, or private cloud architecture/operations.
• Knowledge of virtualization systems, public and private cloud technologies, and datacenter operations.
• Proven experience leading enterprise-scale platform operations and transformation initiatives.
• Understanding of automation, IaC, orchestration, and API-driven infrastructure management.
• Experience with broader private cloud and hosting service ecosystems, including monitoring, logging, security, backup/recovery, automation, and service integration tools.
• Strong track record designing operational models and engineering standards for enterprise private cloud services.
• Demonstrated ability to lead across organizational boundaries and influence technical direction.
• Experience in technical mentoring, governance, and roadmap development.
• Experience leading others in critical situations, and in teaching and coaching others.
Preferred:
• Advanced VMware and/or cloud/platform certifications.
• Experience with hybrid cloud platforms, Tanzu/Kubernetes, or private cloud service catalogs.
• Familiarity with financial and operational considerations of hosted service delivery, such as capacity forecasting, service tiers, and platform standardization.
• Experience leading adoption of observability, self-service, compliance automation, or platform reliability practices.
• Exposure to architectural governance and infrastructure strategy leadership.
