Job Title: Database Administrator

Alpha Omega is seeking a Database Administrator to support Operations and Maintenance of one of its federal programs.The Database Administrator is responsible for the administration, maintenance, performance, availability, and security of Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server database environments supporting current, legacy, and future systems.ย 

This position provides day-to-day database administration support, resolves database-related technical issues, manages database access and permissions, automates routine administrative tasks, and maintains accurate system documentation. The Database Administrator collaborates with engineering, system administration, application support, cybersecurity, and information-management teams to ensure database environments remain secure, reliable, and operationally effective.

Key Responsibilities:ย 

Database Administration and Maintenanceย 

  • Administer and maintain Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server database management systems and related applications.
  • Monitor database health, availability, capacity, and performance.
  • Perform database performance analysis and tuning.
  • Conduct routine database maintenance, backups, restoration, recovery, and archiving activities.
  • Create, update, maintain, and archive databases as required.
  • Perform database system-management and administrative functions.
  • Support database updates, patches, and upgrades, including testing, validation, implementation, and post-deployment monitoring.
  • Maintain database integrity, reliability, availability, and security.
  • Monitor database storage, utilization, and capacity requirements.
  • Identify and resolve database performance, connectivity, access, and configuration issues.

Security and Access Management

  • Administer database users, roles, permissions, and access controls.
  • Manage portal-site user accounts and permissions as required.
  • Review database access to ensure compliance with organizational security requirements.
  • Support security configuration, vulnerability remediation, and database hardening activities.
  • Coordinate with cybersecurity and system-administration teams to address database security risks and findings.

Technical and Operational Supportย 

  • Respond to ad hoc trouble tickets that do not require a formal lifecycle development approach.
  • Troubleshoot database systems, portal sites, user accounts, database connections, and access permissions.
  • Make administrative or configuration modifications to existing portal sites as requested.
  • Provide database administration support for current, legacy, and future systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve database-related incidents and service disruptions.
  • Coordinate with application, engineering, and infrastructure teams to identify root causes and restore services.
  • Track issues through resolution and document corrective actions.

Automation and Process Improvement

  • Develop repeatable processes for automating routine database administration activities.
  • Automate database maintenance, monitoring, backups, archiving, reporting, and other recurring administrative functions.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce manual effort, improve consistency, and strengthen operational reliability.
  • Coordinate database automation efforts with engineering, database administration, and system-administration teams.
  • Document automated processes and establish procedures for their ongoing maintenance and support.

Documentation and Data Cataloging

  • Maintain a complete and accurate library of database, system, configuration, and operational documentation.
  • Document database architectures, configurations, dependencies, access controls, maintenance procedures, backup processes, and recovery procedures.
  • Update documentation following database, system, configuration, or process changes.
  • Work with the Information Owner to compile and maintain a complete and accurate data catalog in support of the Department of the Navy data-cataloging initiative.
  • Assist with identifying, classifying, documenting, and validating data assets and associated metadata.
  • Support audits, assessments, and documentation reviews as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience administering Oracle and Microsoft SQL server databases
  • Demonstrated experience with database maintenance, performance tuning, backup, restoration, recovery, and archiving.
  • Experience administering database users, roles, permissions, and access controls.
  • Experience troubleshooting production database environments and resolving technical-support tickets.
  • Experience supporting database updates, patches, upgrades, migrations, and testing activities.
  • Experience with database monitoring, capacity planning, and system-performance analysis.
  • Experience creating scripts or automated processes for database-administration activities.
  • Strong technical-documentation skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, system administration, application support, cybersecurity, and business stakeholders.

Certification Requirements:
Candidates must hold one or more relevant database certifications, such as:
โ€ข Oracle Certified Professional
โ€ข Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert
โ€ข A current equivalent Oracle or Microsoft database-administration certification

Preferred Qualifications :
โ€ข Experience supporting Department of Defense or Department of the Navy systems.
โ€ข Experience working in regulated, secure, or mission-critical environments.
โ€ข Knowledge of federal cybersecurity, information-assurance, data-governance, and system-documentation requirements.
โ€ข Experience supporting web portals, portal permissions, and user-account administration.
โ€ข Experience with database scripting, job scheduling, monitoring, and automation tools.
โ€ข Familiarity with data cataloging, metadata management, and data-governance initiatives.
โ€ข Experience supporting both legacy and modern database environments.

Salary and Benefit Information:ย ย ย 

The likely salary range for this position is $104,000- $118,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position and could fall outside of this range.ย
