Overview
Garmin Int'l Inc. seeks Senior Database Administrator (Olathe, KS; multiple positions):
Essential Functions
  • Performs and plans management and administration of technology through the use of tools and scripting.
  • Works with team members to ensure technology is effectively supporting enterprise systems. Shares knowledge and provides mentoring to other IT associates.
  • Analyze existing database systems and recommend improvements. Configure and administer SQL and Oracle database servers and applications.
  • Work with IT Manager to establish database security structures, SOX compliance.
  • Create and maintain database access systems including tables, indexes, views, stored procedures, and triggers.
  • Administer database replication between servers, across Local Area Network and Wide Area Network.
  • Tune and optimize database objects. Provide 24x7 on call support.
  • Provides technical input to solution development plans and concept documents. Demonstrates understanding of business impacts of issues and how they relate to IT owned solutions.
  • Communicates effectively in written and verbal form in a cross-functional setting with business partners.
  • Shares knowledge and actively mentors less experienced IT Administrators.
  • Exemplifies Garmin's Mission Statement and Quality Policy and proactively works to improve Garmin's image & culture.
  • Performs and plans major version upgrades. Design and implement effective monitoring of enterprise systems.
  • Tunes systems using experience and deep knowledge of area. Foresees risks and communicates and mitigates those before problems arise.
  • Documents technical designs and procedures for team library.
  • Plans and manages technical projects involving other teams.
  • Communicates technology effectively to non-technical associates and management.
  • Recognizes and understands technology impacts within the business.
  • Gives and receives feedback in a constructive manner.
  • Resolves conflicts with little assistance.
  • Contributes to technical research on new technologies, processes, or procedures.

  • This is an individual contributor role.

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor of Science or Technology Degree in Computer Science, Computer Applications, Engineering, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Business, or another relevant field plus 5 years of post-graduate progressive experience in Oracle applications and database environment.
Must have demonstrated experience in the following:
  • Performance tuning of SQL Query/Database/Servers including execution plans, query stats, wait types, and indexes
  • Relational and/or NoSQL database technologies to support enterprise applications, integrations and reporting workloads.
  • Configuration using EBS volumes and creating Security groups and Secret Manager
  • Deploying schema and configuring changes across clustered environments using SDLC processes.
  • Analyzing PII data to support compliance investigations and remediation plans.
  • Installation, configuration, cloning, patching, upgrades, and administration of Oracle E-Business Suite (R12 and higher) and Oracle Database (19c and higher), including Linux-based Oracle Apps DBA support and ASM-based Disaster Recovery (DR)
  • Implementing new Oracle technologies effectively including Hyperion.
  • Oracle Application server 10g (Oracle Portal), Oracle WebLogic Server 11g, 12c.
  • Advance Supply Chain and Demand Planning used to support ERP planning functions.
  • Ability to learn and implement new technologies independently.

In lieu of a Bachelor's degree plus 5 years of progressive experience, will accept a Master's degree in the same plus 3 years of post-graduate progressive experience in the Oracle applications and database environment.
