Job Description
The Sr. Database Administrator (Automation & AI) is responsible for engineering, automating, and modernizing enterprise database platforms across DB2 and PostgreSQL environments. This role combines advanced database administration expertise with software engineering, AI-driven operations, Infrastructure-as-Code, and cloud platform automation to improve reliability, scalability, security, and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate is passionate about eliminating manual processes through automation and leveraging AI technologies to transform database operations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, administer, and optimize enterprise IBM DB2 UDB and PostgreSQL database environments across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid platforms.
  • Develop and maintain automation frameworks using Python, Ansible, Terraform, Shell scripting, and APIs to streamline database operations.
  • Automate critical processes including server provisioning, database deployments, patching, upgrades, certificate management, backup validation, and compliance checks.
  • Build self-service capabilities that enable users and engineering teams to provision and manage database environments with minimal manual intervention.
  • Lead database upgrades, migrations, modernization initiatives, and high-availability implementations to improve platform resiliency.
  • Implement and support AI-driven operational solutions for incident triage, root cause analysis, capacity forecasting, performance diagnostics, and runbook generation.
  • Establish and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) standards, Git-based workflows, and cloud-native database deployment practices across Azure and AWS environments.
  • Drive continuous improvement by reducing operational toil, improving service reliability, enhancing observability, and implementing self-healing automation solutions.

Basic Qualifications
-Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
-At least 6 years experience with tools, facilities and techniques for managing and administering data.
Preferred Skills/Experience
  • Strong expertise administering IBM DB2 UDB and PostgreSQL databases, including installation, configuration, upgrades, performance tuning, backup/recovery, and security hardening.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python development and automation engineering with experience building scalable operational frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience with Ansible, Terraform, Git, APIs, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices.
  • Deep understanding of Linux administration, database replication technologies, clustering, high availability, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Experience designing and implementing Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) solutions in cloud and hybrid environments.
  • Knowledge of AI/GenAI technologies, machine learning-assisted operations, and intelligent automation applications for database management.
  • Familiarity with Azure, AWS, cloud-native database platforms, observability tools (Datadog), and monitoring solutions.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, collaboration, and ownership mindset with the ability to influence stakeholders and drive operational innovation.
