Job description

Basic Purpose: We are seeking a detail-oriented Senior Database Engineer to support the success of our technology initiatives. This role requires effective communication at both technical and business levels, collaborating closely with the infrastructure, application development, and information management teams. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of database design principles, particularly in optimization and tuning. Proficiency in SQL development is essential, with the ability to create complex SQL scripts, functions, and stored procedures. Experience with IBM i and SQL Server development is preferred.

Job Functions:

  • Manages daily database administration tasks, including monitoring and performance tuning, optimizing SQL queries, resolving SQL errors and failures, auditing activities, and managing resource utilization.
  • Collaborate with application development teams to transition legacy dynamic SQL from Java and C++ applications into function and stored procedure calls.
  • Analyzing and troubleshooting complex SQL queries while identifying the most effective methods to integrate database requests into application programs.
  • Collaborate with the infrastructure team to address backup and recovery challenges, plan capacity effectively, and implement robust measures to protect data from unauthorized access or loss.
  • Provide technical support to the information management team as needed. Resolve issues, investigate emerging technologies, and contribute to developing strategies that enhance information management processes.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent professional experience of at least five years.
